Description of the walk

There is limited parking in Easton Grey near the bridge over the river.

(S/E) From the bridge, walk up a small metalled road off to the right of the main road. After only some 250 meters turn left following the Public Footpath signpost.

Proceed through a couple of fields aiming for a clearing in the tree line as you descend. At this point, turn right, but there is no visible sign. Keep the trees to your right and descend to the river (where some people swim during the summer). Cross over the footbridge and on leaving the river you can continue up on the main path, ascending the Fosse Way.

(1) Alternatively turn right to follow the line of the river, as detailed on the route plan. You soon reach a quiet road, where your turn left up a hill, then go straight ahead at the crossroads. Walk a further 250 meters and the Fosse Way track (which you may have taken if you left the river path) joins from your left.

(2) Bear right and then keep ahead of where the road turns left. Walk on the wide track for another 300m, more or less at the summit of the hill and take a 90 degree right turn through the hedgerow.
NB : It is really easy to miss this sign as it is only about half a metre high! If you start to go downhill for any distance you have probably missed it so turn back.

Follow the well signposted route across gallops. As you cross the second field it is easy to miss the exact route as it is poorly signposted. However, as long as you head straight ahead, perhaps bearing slightly left you will come out onto a metalled road.

(3) Turn left and then within 150m (depending on where you join the road), turn right Within 200m take the first signposted footpath on your right into land owned by the Forestry Commission. Walk past Pinkney Wood on your left and go through tall wrought iron gates at Pinkney Park.

(4) Soon after these gates bear left and descend a short distance until you see a farm ahead. Turn right at an awkward gate, entering a field. You skirt around this field turning left in the corner (there is no other option). As you descend down the field at Scot's Farm, you turn right, then left and then right again in quick succession. You follow the line of the river, but rarely see it! The footpath is marked, though does not strictly follow the path on maps! Keep heading in a broadly eastward direction until you come upon a metalled road. Turn left and over the bridge to arrive back at your start point(S/E)
