From Vogüe to La Roque

This route takes you down the Ardèche from Voguë to the Old Rhône, covering 80 km and allowing you to discover this river.
Note: the elevation differences mentioned here are incorrect, due to measurements taken in the gorges. The actual elevation difference is 140 m downhill.

Description of the walk

(S) Departure from Vogüe on the beach before the bridge.
(1) Be careful before thesecond bridge.
(2) Exit Vogüe.
(3) Caution: take the right-hand branch (check that it is passable).
(4) Lanas bridge.
(5) Lanas dam: pass through the centre in a canoe, otherwise you can carry your canoe on the left.
(6) Balazuc bridge, beach on the left with: bins, drinking water, bakery.
Here begins an 8 km stretch of nature in the valleys of the middle Ardèche: the 2 valleys.
(7) Pradons Bridge, be careful, dangerous rapids ahead after the left turn.
(8) Rapids probably impossible to navigate, portage on the left if there is not too much water, approach slowly.
Very natural area after this passage.
(9) Confluence with the Ligne.
(10) Ruoms Bridge.
(11) Ruoms Dam, pass by canoe on the right.
(12) Confluence with the Baume on the right.
(13) Confluence with the Chassezac on the right, possibility of going upstream for several kilometres depending on the current.
(14) Double bridge at Sampzon.
(15) Series of 5 dams over a distance of about 10 kilometres.
Dam 1/5: canoe passage in the centre.
Campsite on the right just after, recommended stop as from now on it will be difficult to find a place to camp for the next 15 kilometres.

(16) Sandaya campsite bridge.
(17) Dam 2/5: canoe passage in the centre left. Watch out for the bridge that follows.
(18) Submerged bridge: if there is too much water, you will not be able to pass underneath.
(19) Dam 3/5: be careful, narrow passage in the centre.
(20) Dam 4/5: pass on the left after the large rock, possibility of docking on the left at Vallon Pont-d'Arc: drinking water, rubbish bin, supermarket 13 min walk to Intermarché.
(21) Dam 5/5: pass on the right
(22) In 3 km, large rapid called Charlemagne followed by the Vallon Pont d'Arc arch.
(23) The Vallon Pont d'Arc arch.
(24) Entrance to the Nature Reserve, camping prohibited until the Gaud area.
(25) Gaud bivouac area: €20 if you don't book in advance.
(26) Gournier bivouac area: €20 if you don't book in advance.
(27) Beware of strong currents hitting the rocks; pass on the left.
(28) La Maladrerie des Templiers
(29) Madeleine rapids
(30) Town of Sauze, canoe landing on the left: rubbish bins, drinking water, mini-market, restaurant.
(31) Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche bridge and dam, portage on the left: rubbish bins, drinking water, mini-market, restaurant.
(32) Dam on the left. Be careful if the water level is high, as there is a risk of being swept away.
(33) Double bridge.
(34) Confluence with the Vieux Rhône, portage on the left.
(35) Double bridge at Pont-Saint-Esprit: supermarket available, mooring on the right bank, beach between the two bridges, 10-minute walk to the Intermarché supermarket.
(36) Confluence with the Lauzon.
(37) Confluence with the Rhône.
(E) Disembarkation.

Please note, however, that part of this descent takes place in a Nature Reserve where camping is prohibited except in the areas mentioned (25) and (26).
