We did this walk as a family, heading from Monopoli to Polignano a Mare. The section from A to 4 is completely uninteresting. You walk along a cycle path next to the road and far from the seafront. I’d advise you to take the bus to avoid this stretch.
This walk is easily done in the opposite direction as the path is flat from start to finish. It’s easy to follow as it runs along the coast. However, it isn’t signposted at all, so you’ll need to check the route on Visorando for the sections through the coves or the quarry to avoid a long detour.
We were there in spring; the meadows were full of flowers and green wheat. Magnificent with the sea in the background!
All along the route there are coves where Italians go for a swim (official signs say otherwise). We did the same, even though the water was a bit chilly at that time of year. The coastline is very beautiful, very rugged with varied rock formations. Be careful not to get too close as it crumbles.
The walk is in full sun with no possibility of getting water. Trainers are recommended as there is undergrowth, volcanic rock (?) and, above all, broken glass and other rubbish. What a shame! The path is not maintained and is used for festive gatherings or even as a meeting place for sexual encounters once night falls.
Upon reaching Polignano a Mare, the path veers away from the coast, offering views of a few farmhouses with trulli, some renovated and others not.
This walk is ideal to round off a day spent visiting Monopoli and Poligniano a Mare. It offers a varied glimpse of Puglia.
