From Moirey (Ferme du Vallon) to Sedan (Camping du Lac de Douzy)

(S) Leave the campsite and turn left onto Rue du Labret. At the junction, continue straight ahead onto the track.

(1) In Wavrille, turn right in front of the church, then veer left towards Damvillers.

(2) After the water tower, turn left onto Rue de la Gare and follow it to the roundabout.

(3) Take the last exit off the roundabout, Route de Réville, and pass in front of the old station.

(4) At the left-hand bend onto Rue Chaufour, join the path on the left marked PR® which passes in front of the mast and rejoins the road at a bend. Follow it to the left for about 500 metres.

(5) Turn right onto Voie Saint-Georges. As you emerge from the woods, cross a road and continue straight ahead through the farmland until you reach the next road (^D110A).

(6) Carry on to the left for 400 m, then head down to the right onto the D110 as far as Brandeville.

(7) At the entrance to the village, turn right onto Rue d’Argonne, then left after 250 metres and follow the stream along Chemin de la Petite Ville.

(8) Turn right onto the street that crosses the Ruisseau de Braconrupt – Rue du Moulin – to go round the Moulin de l’Épinette. At the junction, return to the other bank by turning left onto Route de Bréhéville and continue to a multi-way junction.

(9) Turn right onto the D102 and head towards the National Necropolis.

(10) Continue along the D102, take a hairpin bend to the right at the junction, then turn left at the next junction and carry on for about fifty metres.

(11) Take the track that branches off to the left and follow it until you reach a three-way junction.

(12) Turn right onto the track that leads into the forest. After crossing the stream, head uphill to the Saint-Dagobert Fountain.

(13) Continue to the next junction.

(14) Turn left, and follow the^second track on the left, about 2.5 km further on.

(15) Head down to the right towards the Ruisseau du Charmois, then turn left towards the castle and a road junction.

(16) Turn right (D195) to reach Mouzay

(17) At the entrance to the village, on the corner of No. 24, turn left onto Chemin de la Folie, then follow Rue de la Fontaine and Grande Rue.

(18) In front of the town hall, cross the Place du Général de Gaulle, then take Ruelle Leblond on the right. Cross Rue Gambetta and the bridge over the Somme Fosse, then turn right onto Rue Taillebut. Then turn left onto Ruelle Chantonneau, continue along Chemin de la Hutte and turn right at the end of it.

(19) A few metres past the farmhouse on your right, take the track on the left which takes you to Stenay, avoiding the main road.

(20) At the road, turn right; at the roundabout, turn right again onto Rue de la Chênaie, then turn left twice; at the end of Chemin des Groseillers, turn right to reach the fire station. Turn left, then immediately right onto Rue Jean Blain, and follow the small path to Rue Simone Weil.

(21) Facing the cemetery wall, turn left into Rue du^120e RI. Follow it as it bends to the right, then turn left twice – first into Ruelle des Tamaris and then into Rue de la Citadelle – until you reach the small cul-de-sac.

(22) Park your bikes here and make your way to the entrance of the Beer Museum by going round the building. To set off again, head back the way you came along Rue de la Citadelle, and continue straight on along Rue Chanzy, then Rue Pasteur and Avenue des Tilleuls to reach the end of Rue du Canal.

(23) Turn left and follow the D964 to the car park, a few metres before the Martincourt-sur-Meuse town boundary sign.

(24) Turn left, cross the canal and then the Meuse, and, 500 metres further on, turn right to reach the end of Rue de la Prairie.

(25) Turn right, heading north, and follow the road (Eurovélo 19) as it leaves Luzy, which generally runs along the edge of the woodland. At the next junction, head back down towards the Meuse.

(26) Pass the lock and the bridges over it, and head for Saint-Martin’s Church in the village of Pouilly via the Grand’Rue.

(27) Continue along Rue du Cimetière, then turn right onto Chemin de Mouzon, which passes several farms and cuts across three bends in the Meuse. You’ll reach the Gallo-Roman site and the D964.

(28) Head down the D964 to the left until you reach the entrance to Mouzon.

(29) Turn left just after the^first building, head towards the Meuse and follow the riverbank along the cycle path on the right. Turn right at the^first street, then immediately left, and head towards the bridge over the Meuse. Cross the bridge and continue straight ahead onto Rue Charles de Gaulle; go round the bend to the right, then turn right onto Rue du Colombier just after the abbey church to reach the Tourist Office and the Felt Museum.

(30) Turn right, cross the Abbey Gardens and come out onto Avenue du Moulin Lavigne. Follow it to the left, cross the bridges over the Meuse and the canal, then turn right straight away and join the EV19 along the canal bank. Follow it to the right and, when it bends right then left and moves away from the canal, carry on straight ahead until the next junction.

(31) Walk about twenty metres to the right and take the path on the left which leads into a wooded area and then onto the D964. Follow it to the left for 800 metres, skirting Lake Douzy along the D964, and look out for the entrance to the Domaine de Douzy on the right.

(32) Carry on along the D964, then turn left onto the D4 and join the EV19. Follow it, cross the bridges over the Meuse and the canal, and turn right immediately afterwards. Follow the canal and then the Meuse on your right, pass under the road bridge and reach the next one.

(33) Take the bridge and cross the Meuse, then turn left straight away onto the cycle path. Continue along the Meuse until you reach Rue de Strasbourg.

(34) Turn left, then right in front of the Pôle Culturel. Cross Avenue du Maréchal Leclerc. Head up Rue de la République, then along Place d’Armes.

(35) At the end, turn right onto Place de la Halle, then left twice, onto Rue du Ménil and Rue de Bayle.

(36) Walk about twenty metres to the right along Rue Chardron, then turn left onto Rue Hué Tanton, until you reach the entrance to Sedan Castle.

(37) Return to the previous junction.

(37) Continue to the right along Promenoir des Prêtres, then turn left into Rue Jules Rousseau and head towards the Place d’Armes.

(35) Cross the square and follow the route back in the opposite direction to the entrance to the Domaine de Douzy.

(32) Turn left and arrive at the campsite, the end of this stage (E).

(13) Benches around the fountain are ideal for a break.

(16) Just before the “Château du Charmois” farm, honey is on sale at the beekeeper’s.

(23) A playground with a table ideal for a picnic, 100 metres away on Rue du Canal.

(23) Please note: we had to take a path between the Meuse and the canal to avoid the road, but it is blocked by vegetation before Martincourt.

(24) Continuing for 2 km along the canal, you’ll come to the Camping des Bouleaux in Inor, which allows you to split this stage in two.

(28) The wooded area provides welcome shade for a picnic at the Gallo-Roman site of Le Flavier.

(28) To set off again whilst avoiding the busy D964 road, it may be possible (not tested) to take the path on the left just after the bend, through the Bois du Flavier, and then follow the Meuse to rejoin the route.

(30) The Abbatiale park is a good spot for a break.

(32) The entrance to the campsite leads to the lake beach, which is very busy during the day in summer. There are no tables but there are benches in front of the beach. Ask for the code needed to open the main gate or at least the small gate (you’ll need to carry your bike up the stairs – 4 steps).

(32) From here, instead of visiting Sedan in the evening, you can head to Chassepierre (23 km along the route suggested for the next stage).

(3) Damvillers station was in operation between 1914 and 1935 (Verdun–Montmédy line).

(10) The Brandeville National War Cemetery was established following the fighting at the start of the^First World War.

(16) Two buildings near the road bear the name ‘Château de Charmois’: one, situated in the middle of a farmyard and built in 1613, now houses a brewery which is open to visitors; the other is near the crossroads, which has been rebuilt several times.

(22) The Beer Museum is open daily from 10.00–12.30 and 13.30–18.00.

(28) A Gallo-Roman site was discovered in 1965.

(30) The Felt Museum is open from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm every day except Mondays.

(37) Europe’s largest medieval fortress is open for evening visits twice a week in summer: feasting evenings!
