Description of the walk

Park in the public car park before arriving at the hamlet of Bardou.

(S/E) Continue on foot along the road towards Bardou, leaving the hamlet on your left.

(1) Take the stairs on the right and follow the GR®7: white and red markings. Continue to the Col de Bardou.

(2) Turn left and follow the GRP® Tour des Lacs et Monts en Haut Languedoc: yellow and red markings.

(3) Ignore the access to a house on the left and continue straight ahead. The path climbs in several hairpin bends and reaches the plateau at the junction with the path leading to the Chapel of Saint-Martin du Froid.

(4) Continue straight ahead, staying on the GRP®. Make sure you keep going in the same direction, ignoring the paths branching off to either side. The path turns 90° to the left and reaches a three-way junction.

(5) Turn right, temporarily leaving the GRP® before rejoining it at a star-shaped crossroads.

(6) Turn right at the GRP®. Keep to the right at the three-way junction and follow the almost straight path heading north-east to Mazade des Huttes.

(7) Turn left and head to the crossroads at Abri du Col de l'Espinouse (where you can take a break).

(8) Cross the road, follow it to the right for about 100 metres, then take the path on the left, keeping to the GRP®. Continue to the Sommet de l'Espinouse.

(9) Continue along the path until you reach the hairpin bend of a forest track.

(10) Follow it to the right, downhill, then almost along the contour line.

(11) Leave the track and take a path on the right that descends straight down the slope and leads to the D53.

(12) Follow it in the same direction and you will reach the Col de Ginestet.

(13) Turn right, following the double GRP® and GR®653 markings. Pass Prat de Sèbe and reach a fork in a hairpin bend.

(14) Turn right and then begin a series of wide hairpin bends.

(15) Leave the main path and take the trail on the left, following the double markings. Turn right at the fork and rejoin the main path you left earlier.

(16) Continue to the right, ignoring a path that branches off immediately to the right.

(17) Leave the path and turn left. Cross the Mare (stream) and reach Castanet-le-Haut at the church and cemetery.

(18) Take the stairs on the right to reach the main street, follow it to the right, then take a lane on the right without crossing the bridge over the Ruisseau de Capials. Come out onto Route d'Andabre and follow it, turning right. Cross the bridge over the Mare and continue along this road until you reach a left-hand bend.

(19) Leave the road and take a path on the right without crossing the bridge. Leave the path leading to Notre-Dame de Saint-Eutrope on your right and reach a fork just after the Salibens stream.

(20) Turn right, then keep left about 20 metres further on. You will come to a new bridge over the Mare.

(21) Take the path on the right without crossing the bridge and follow the Mare to Andabre. Cross the bridge by turning left and leaving the double markings you have been following until now.

(22) Turn right onto the road that passes in front of the church and continue to the town hall.

(23) Turn left, then right at the end of the street to join the Route de Lacaune (D922). Follow the departmental road to the left until you reach the first three-way junction.

(24) Turn right and follow the right bank of the Bouissou.

(25) Cross Route de Plaisance at the primary school and continue straight ahead, passing in front of Geniès-de-Varensal Town Hall and joining the bridge over the Bouissou.

(26) Cross the bridge and continue along the left bank. Stay on the path that runs closest to the Bouissou and you will reach the lodge at the peatland (E).
