Description of the walk

Parking at Poix Saint-Hubert station.

No signposting

(S/E) With the station building on your right, head towards the N808. Turn right and cross the level crossing. Follow the A-road, leave the built-up area and walk past the school. On your right, ignore thefirst hairpin bend in the forest track and walk to the next track.

(1) Cross with care and take this ascending forest track. On the climb, ignore the path on your right (not shown on maps) and head towards the house. Keep to your right and continue climbing. Atthe first junction, carry straight on. At the next multi-way junction, take the forest track opposite, slightly to the left, the least marked one (i.e. thesecond from the left) and walk to the crossroads.

(2) Turn left onto the path between the two fir woods and head downhill. At the road, at a place called Maison Blanche, cross the N808 with care and continue straight ahead on the path starting at the foot of the concrete electricity pylon. Head downhill and, at the road, turn right until the next junction.

(3) Turn right and, at the junction, turn left. View of the opposite slope, which you will be on on the way back. Head downhill to the road and continue to the right.

Red Cycle Signage: Red Triangle on 2 Red Circles

Cross over the Ruisseau du Dossê, continue along the road running alongside the railway line and, at the crossroads, carry straight on.

Warning! Here, the route on OSM does not match the actual terrain.

Use the beam bridge crossing La Lomme.

(4) Turn immediately left and go under the railway line. Continue up the forest track and, at the Fork in the road, keep left.

No signposting

Ignore the path on your right and continue straight ahead. Cross over the stream and walk to an open junction.

(5) Carry on straight ahead and follow the main path up to the crossroads. Carry on straight ahead and head down the path that branches off to the right, goes under the trees and then turns left. Walk along a meadow. Leave the woods and pass through an open area.

(6) Ignore the wide path on your left and continue straight ahead. At the next junction, continue straight ahead for about 110 m until you reach a less marked forest track on your left.

(7) Turn left and head uphill. The path curves slightly to the right and joins another forest track, which you continue to follow uphill. At the top, at the T-junction, turn left until you reach a crossroads.

(8) Turn right and walk along the main path for 800 m until you reach the T-junction. Turn right and, at the fork in the road, turn left. You will soon come to another Fork in the road.

(9) Turn left and walk alongside a fir forest on your left. Walk for 500 m, clearing a path through the broom and heather in the final metres of the path. At the bottom, turn right towards the green hunter’s chair.

GR® signposting

Keep to your right and head under the fir trees. Follow the stream on your left. The path turns right. Walk along the main forest track for 1.2 km, ignoring all the turnings, until you reach a crossroads with an open space.

(10) At the crossroads, turn left and go down the dirt track, which becomes a road when you reach the house. Continue along Rue des Bouleaux and, at the end of the road, turn right. At the N808, turn left and cross the Lomme. Cross carefully and return to the station car park (S/E).

Hello Sonia Navez,

i can understand the (6) because it is not marked, but for the point (10)... it is marked GR, so I am wondering... is your comment about the right hike?

Best regards,

Point 6 was not easy to find. At point 10, it was really difficult to find the path at the back of the clearing. It was good that we saw people coming out of the path, otherwise we would have been going round in circles for a while trying to find it.

A very beautiful walk in nature, fairly easy route, accessible to all.

Hello Thérèse,
From what you’ve written, I assume you didn’t have the app (which is free). At point 1, you were supposed to take the forest path and go uphill to reach the first crossroads... so did you take that forest path?
Because, obviously, everything depends on getting off to a good start.
I hope it’s less complicated next time, and if your phone allows it, download the app just to be on the safe side. It lets you know where you are and which way you’re going without needing a 4G connection.

Best regards

Right from the start at point 1, we couldn’t find the first junction, or the multi-way crossroads, etc...
So we headed too far west and took a huge detour along some lovely paths and roads, then found the route again between points 9 and 10 and followed the GR to Poix. In total, a good 15 or 16 km... which ended almost in the dark.
We’ll do it again, paying more attention next time.

Hello, and thank you for your feedback.

It’s lovely to hear that you enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to accept your first suggestion:

to place a marker at (6)

It’s not that I don’t want to... but installing signposting requires official applications to the relevant regional/local authorities, which takes a long time (a new walk near Paliseul was featured in the local newspaper. When I visited, the signposting wasn’t there yet, even though the project was proposed over a year ago).
Then there would be a need for regular maintenance of these markings.

I’m just a walker who shares her walks and describes them as best I can. Under no circumstances would I want to commit to monitoring signposting on all my suggestions (I have over 150 on Visorando), some of which are far from my home. When you sometimes see the poor signposting on walks suggested by tourist offices... it really is a lot of work.

Regarding your second suggestion: I’d say that if it’s damp or rainy, you’d naturally wear your anorak
but I suppose you were thinking more about warning people about the wet grass on their legs. I’ll think about the best way to phrase this and add it to the practical information. Although your post will already provide that information for the next person.

All this is said without any ill will whatsoever.
Thank you, and happy future hikes

Hello,
We went on the hike in August in hot, sunny weather.

However, please allow me to make a few suggestions:

  • At point (6), the forest path, which is less clearly marked after 110 m, was indeed barely visible. We really struggled to find it. I admit that a permanent solution is difficult at this spot… Perhaps some sort of marker?
  • At no. (9), we did indeed have to clear a path through the broom, ferns and heather. Fortunately, it was dry. Perhaps you could add to the Practical Information that in wet or damp weather, a waterproof jacket might come in handy?

Overall, a lovely walk! Thanks again for the great work.

One of the most beautiful hikes, which at times even had a touch of Alaska about it... We didn’t meet a soul, even though the sun was shining brightly in the sky. The unmarked section caused us to hesitate a little (especially towards the end), but by focusing on the distances given, we were able to follow the planned route.

In any case, thanks to whoever mapped out this walk – we’ll definitely be doing it again!
