Description of the walk

Start : Lower Buck Inn, Edisford Road, Waddington, Clitheroe, (BB7 3HU) Grid ref. SD 727 437

(S/E) Leaving the front door of the Lower Buck walk around to the left and left again behind the pub and along the lane until you reach the entrance to ‘the Roost’ before which you turn right and through a little gate. Continue up alongside the brook.

(1) Cross a stone bridge left and over the stile. Follow the path up keeping the wall to your right and over another stone stile and into the field. Bear left across the field, keeping just to the right of the lone wooden post, across to the kissing gate. Continue straight on, passing through a gateway and across again to the next kissing gate, leading you into a wooded area. Walk through this and bear right.

(2) Just before the overhead pipe, bear left over the bridge and take the left-hand field gate. Continue straight on keeping the fence on your right across the field and through another kissing gate and across the next field to reach a footbridge. Walk straight across this field towards the left-hand side of the stone wall towards the kissing gate. Look to the right and see the beautiful Colthurst Hall.

(3) Joining the lane, bear left (South-East) and follow it to the second kissing gate along on the right part way around the corner. Keep along the hedgerow, flitting between the fields via a footbridge. As you walk through ‘Page Fold’ watch out for the narrow footpath up two steps on your left, just after the first property. Follow this between the hedges and continue all the way down until you reach the kissing gate at the bottom.

Through this gate and bear left following the fenceline across to Lower New House. Here we suggest you follow the concessionary path to the right, in front of the property, then along the farm track, passing another house to your left, following the track down to the right.

(4) Bear left across the bridge and through the kissing gate. Continue straight on from here towards Waddington through another gate, passing an old barn on your right. Continue along the same track, which eventually leads you back into the village and along the lane you followed at the start of this walk. You will find the Lower Buck on
your right. (S/E)
