Description of the walk

Start : 3 Millstones Inn, Waddington Road, West Bradford, Clitheroe, Lancashire, (BB7 4SX) Grid ref. SD 741 444

(S/E) Leaving the Three Millstones car park bear right (East) and walk downhill from the Inn for about 20 metres until you come to the footpath on the right, taking you along the stream behind some houses.

Towards the end of the footpath, you will pass through a small close with a stone wall and a Victorian style lamppost in some shrubbery. Head towards the lamppost and just beyond.

(1) When you reach the road (Clitheroe Road), turn right. Continue along this road until you get to the river wall, where you will find a kissing gate to your left, just before the wall starts.

(2) Take this gate and follow the path heading left, where you will follow the footpath upstream along the River Ribble. Continue along the riverside path, which veers away from the river at a bend, taking you left and to a concrete bridge.

(3) Cross the bridge and instead of following the track to your left, continue right, keeping the boundary of the field to your right, towards the footbridge. Cross the footbridge and continue along the bank of the river and when you come to the row of old beech trees along a small ridge, take the footpath at the end of the row, skirting past some houses to join the road (Ribble Lane).

(4) At the road bear right across the iron bridge over the River Ribble and follow the road round to the left, joining the footpath behind the wall running adjacent to the road.

(5) Climb up the steps to your right alongside the road, and then cross the road through the gate on your right taking care to look both ways for traffic.

(6) Once over the road, head right and follow the path, keeping the hedgerow to your right. Follow the riverside path all the way back downstream passing various kissing gates, until you reach the next road bridge.

(7) Go through the kissing gate and turn right to cross the bridge heading back towards West Bradford following the road until you reach Mill Street where you take a left at waypoint (2) to retrace your steps along the footpath and back to the Three Millstones. (S/E)
