Description of the route

Start from the mini Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Montheries.

(S/E) Take the D15 towards Rennepont for 80 m, then take the small tarmac track on the right (Chemin de Morin). At the three-way junction, follow the track on the left and, at the next junction, turn left again to cross the small river and continue for 300 m.

(1) Turn right onto the path leading up into the forest (GR®® 703) and follow it to Colombey-les-Deux-Églises. Turn left in the village, pass the school and, at the crossroads, go straight up Rue de l'Église to the church. Turn left and head down to the car park.

(2) Take the path leading down and continue straight on, winding through the valley until you pass an old quarry.

(3) At the T-junction, turn left, then take the first right. Continue straight on until you cross a small, long field at the bottom of the valley.

(4) At the track, turn left for 400 m then head up the valley on the right. At the three-way junction, keep left and follow the next path. Turn right and follow the valley floor until you reach a four-way junction at the top of the climb. Head straight on and reach the next junction.

(5) Cross the track and continue straight ahead. At the next three-way junction, turn right (Route Forestière des Pentes Vallottes) and continue straight on until you reach a fork at the edge of the forest.

(6) Turn right just before the end of the woodland and follow the path as it curves sharply to the left. Pass the Maison Forestière des Charmelles and arrive at a bridge over the railway line.

(7) Cross the bridge and follow the road to the junction just after the bridge over the Aube.

(8) Follow the path to the left, join the D936 and follow it to the left until you reach thesecond track on the right, which starts between the fields (Route Forestière de Poule Grive).

(9) Take this track and carry straight on until you reach a large X-junction.

(10) Keep to the right and head down the valley (Vallotte aux Écureuils). At the road, turn left and follow the road to Clairvaux Abbey. Walk along the right-hand side of the boundary wall. At the end, turn right then left onto the road. Walk straight through the village and you’ll reach the D396.

(11) Cross the D-road, continue on the D12, and pass through L’Aube. On leaving the village, at the 90° bend in the road, take the track opposite for 80 m, then take the first right and head towards a three-way junction at the edge of the forest.

(12) Turn left and climb until you reach the start of a track on the left (PR®®).

(13) Follow it downhill, cross a small valley and continue straight ahead uphill until you reach a path on the right.

(14) Turn right, then, at the track, turn right again and follow it until you reach a 90° right-hand bend.

(15) Continue along the path straight ahead and follow it to the end. At the junction on the descent, turn left and head to the end of Rue du Grimoret in Maranville.

(16) Take the D-road on the right and turn left at the church onto the D164, towards Vaudremont. Cross the bridge over the Aujon and then the railway line to reach the junction with the D102.

(17) Take the path going uphill opposite (GR®® 703) for 2 km.

(18) When the slope levels out, take the track on the right. Follow it to the end, then turn left. Follow the path to a track.

(19) Turn left for 50 m, then left again onto a forest track. Continue straight on until you reach another track.

(20) Turn right, then at the junction, follow the red and white markings straight ahead. Turn right then left, still following the markings. Follow the path down to the next junction and turn left, then right at the bottom of the descent.

(21) Cross the River Renne to reach Montheries (S/E).
