Coming from Tarascon-sur-Ariège, leave the N20 at the end of the four-lane overtaking zone and take the Bouan/Larnat exit. Drive up to the village of Larnat following the D220a, which is very narrow and requires caution in the numerous hairpin bends. Park in the small car park at the entrance to the village. It can accommodate four to five vehicles
The hike follows well-marked mountain bike routes (route 19, route 20 or route 21 depending on the section).
(S/E) Head towards the centre of the village to reach a crossroads where you will find a fire hydrant and a very original telephone box that has been converted into a library for everyone. Turn left, following the sign for "Col de Larnat".
Pass the wash house, keep right at the crossroads just after it and follow the small tarmac road uphill.
(1) Leave this road and take a path that starts on the right at a signpost. Follow the sign for "Pierre Ronde". The steep, narrow path passes the stone in question, which has a metal cross on it, and leads to a stony track further up.
(2) Turn right and follow this track, which winds around several hairpin bends before becoming straighter and leading to the Col de Larnat.
(3) Stop to enjoy the panoramic view, where the Montagne de Tabe with the Pic de Han and the Pic de Saint-Barthélémy take centre stage (east).
Then pass by a large rock on your right with a sign describing the Roc de Miglos athletics route. Continue on the wide path that heads south after a left-hand bend and becomes less clear in the meadow before the 1290 m peak. Make sure you keep going in the same direction, pass a small concrete building on the hillock on your right and you will come to a crossroads.
(4) Turn left onto a slight incline, go around the small wooded peak of Les Estanils and walk along the hillside. A little further up, cross a cattle grid with wooden railings located at the "Forêt communale de Miglos" sign. Continue along the path.
(5) Turn left at the hairpin bend, following the double direction signs for "Col Doulent" and "Larnat" indicated on wooden signs.
Reach the ridge and turn right. The path, bordered by an electric fence on the left, begins a slight climb and then descends along the mountainside. Enjoy the magnificent view of the Montagne de Tabe.
(6) Turn left onto a wide, stony path that winds lazily along the eastern slope of Enfreychade, offering beautiful views of the Aston valley and the village of the same name.
Pass a small, perfectly restored building with breathtaking views to quickly reach a crossroads at the start of a hairpin bend to the right. Leave the path you have been following and turn left towards Larnat (signposted) and Col Doulent (misspelled on the map). You will soon reach the latter.
(7) Turn left to reach the picnic area where wooden benches and a stone barbecue await hikers. Pass a barrier (watering trough) and continue straight on along the Col Doulent forest road, which you will follow almost all the way to Larnat. Turn right at the first fork, leaving an uphill track on your left.
(8) Turn left at the hairpin bend and follow the forest road, which runs almost level with the village of Larnat, sometimes in full view, depending on the density of the vegetation.
(9) When you reach a crossroads (30km/h speed limit sign in the opposite direction), take the road opposite and head downhill, following the wooden sign for "Larnat". Keep left at the next junction to begin a final gentle climb before reaching the entrance to the village.
(1) Continue along the road and turn right at the telephone box/library to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
