Description of the walk

Start : Appletreewick Village Hall on the main road. (Nearby postcode BD23 6DA) Grid ref. SE 056 600

(S/E) From Appletreewick Village Hall, walk West for 360m to find a farm road on your left opposite The New Inn pub. Turn left and walk through the gate (South) until you reach River Wharfe.

(1) Turn right (West) and follow the riverside heading upstream. After 1.3 Km or so, the path leaves the riverside as the path bears right (North-West) to reach Woodhouse farm and lane.

(2) Take the left fork keeping North-West, which leads over a footbridge. Cross the footbridge to rejoin River Wharfe riverside. 600m or so later at a junction, keep right to reach a road where you turn left.

(3) Just before the road crosses the river, go down steep steps next to the 30mph sign to rejoin River Wharfe riverside. After 230 m, find a wooden stile on your right.

(4) Cross it then walk up the steep uphill (North-East). Cross Skuff Road to join the path straight ahead. Keep walking on this path until you reach Hartlington Raikes road.

(5) Turn left on the road and follow it for 1.5 Km (maybe seeing the donkeys in a field on the way) until you reach Hedben Road (B6265). Caution this is a busy and fast road.

(6) Cross the road to take the path straight ahead. Keep walking North-East for 2 Km or so.

(7) Then carry on keeping Grimwith reservoir on your right-hand side. Keep following the path along the reservoir for approx. 5 Km until reaching the Public Car Park.

(8) Keep left behind the toilet block to find a track that brings you South to the busy Hebden Road (B6265) again.

(9) Cross it straight again with extra care. Follow the path South-East until you reach New road. Walk a few steps straight ahead along the road to find an obvious track on your right.

(10) Turn right and walk South-West, ignoring paths coming from left and right for 1.3 Km.

(11) At the junction, turn right and walk to the next junction.

(12) Here, turn left and follow signs to Appletreewick. Walk South-West, ignoring paths coming from the left and right until you reach Appletreewick main road at the Craven Arms.

(13) Turn left (East) and walk along the main road West to go back to the start at Appletreewick Village Hall. (S/E)
