Other walks in the area
A day trip to the Aneto from Artiga de Lin
This is the shortest road route from France for climbing Aneto in a (long...) day, without camping or staying in a mountain hut.
Besurta, Renclusa and Aigüalluts
A short hike starting from Besurta after taking the park bus from L’Hospital. This is followed by an ascent to the refuge, including a circular route to the ibon that very few hikers take. You then need to head back down to the refuge before setting off towards the pass via a steep climb of about 20 minutes. Descend towards Le Plan, enjoying numerous views along the way. Once at Le Plan, head for the waterfall at the back of the cirque for a relaxing break amidst the stunning scenery. Return via Le Plan, where you’re likely to come across far more people. The descent back to the Besurta car park is fairly quick. There’s a very pretty waterfall on the way out of Le Plan.
La Besurta: mountain hut, mountain lake and map
This is a hike in Besurta that passes by the La Renclusa mountain refuge, the Ibon de Paderna and the Plan d’Aiguallut.
It’s a very beautiful walk with lovely mountains, waterfalls and viewpoints. It’s a really enjoyable walk and accessible for young children when properly supervised, but you’ll need to allow much more time than indicated. This route takes you past waterfalls and viewpoints. There’s also a door carved into the rock. The time given for the walk is without breaks. Please stay on the paths and respect the mountain environment.
Plan d’Abaixo – Fuente de la Pubiya
The route runs from Plan d’Abaixo to Fuente de la Pubiya. This final stage, approximately 10 km long, will take you back to the starting point of the route. You’ll follow mountain paths offering beautiful views of the valley before finishing with a gentle descent to Fuente de la Pubiya, thus completing this circular walk.
Port de Vénasque - Port de la Picade - Pas de l'Escalette loop
This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful hikes in the Pyrenees. The climb is long and difficult, but the panoramic views will make you forget your aching legs. Once past the azure blue Boums du Port, the Port de Venasque fault offers the most beautiful balcony overlooking the Maladeta and its lord, the Aneto. The Port de la Picade with its superb panoramic views, the Pas de l'Escalette and the Crabidès ridge complete this unforgettable hike.
The Campsaure plateau from the Hospice de France
This hike is not particularly difficult, apart from a slightly steep climb during the first kilometre, and offers superb views of the Luchonnais mountain pastures (sheep, cows, horses), the climb to Vénasque and the Crête de la Pique.
Étangs de la Frèche, Soum de l'Escalette circular
A beautiful route that is less frequented than those of the Étangs de Boums du Port de Vénasque or the Pic de Sauvegarde. The climb takes place in a pleasant valley, shaded in the morning. From the Soum de l'Escalette (2,466 m), the 360° panorama is magnificent. The descent begins with a beautiful ridge trail that offers magnificent scenery all along the way. This is an easy hike with fairly regular and moderate slopes for the most part.
Pic de Sauvegarde via Port de Vénasque, return via Pas de l'Escalette
A challenging circular route starting from the Hospice de France.Head to the Port de Vénasque – Ascent of the Pic de Sauvegarde via the Spanish side – Return via the Pas de l'Escalette. At the Pic de Sauvegarde, breathtaking 360° views, from Bagnères-de-Luchon to the Pic d'Anéto.
