Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Place Gilles Léontin.

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left onto Rue de l'Église to cross the centre of Boulbon, passing Saint-Joseph Church and the town hall. After the square, turn right onto Rue Fond Bernard (a dead-end street).

(1) Once at the end of the street, head up towards Moulin Bonnet via a small path that follows a stream at the start before veering off to the left and joining a track.

(2) Turn left and head for the mill: beautiful views over the Rhône.

(3) Turn back.

(2) Resume the route on Chemin Moulin Bonnet. Turn left at the three-way junction. Follow the path to the next bend.

(4) Take the path on the right and head towards the Moulon de Blé: sweeping views to the north.

(5) Head down the ridge. At the nearby five-way junction, carry on straight ahead (third path on the right), keeping a north-easterly direction for about 400m. Pass a path on the right, continue straight on and, 50m further on, turn right. Descend into a small valley to reach the Romanesque-style Chapelle Saint-Julien: benches for a rest.

(6) Continue, keeping to the right, and join the Route de Frigolet (D81). Cross it and take the path opposite, slightly to the left. Join the Chemin du Pont d'Or and follow it, turning right. Pass the riding centre and then the pumping station, and continue straight on until the 90° left-hand bend.

(7) Leave the Chemin du Pont d'Or and continue straight on for about 300 m, then turn right onto the path leading to the Croix de Saint-Julien.

(8) Continue along the path until you reach a track; follow it to the right. Take the left-hand bend and continue for about a hundred metres.

(9) Turn right and continue straight on to Les Bouisses. Pass through the hamlet and join the D81.

(10) Cross with care (at the bend) and turn right. Follow the road for about 500 m until you reach a car park.

(11) Head left (south) and begin a long, steady climb up the Vallon des Cavaillonès. Ignore several paths to the right or left. At the T-junction, turn left. You’ll reach a multi-way junction.

(12) Turn left. Pass the first path on the left and take the next one on the left, at a water tank. Take the next path on the right, heading due east. Reach a junction.

(13) Turn left to reach the Rochers de Raous, the highest point of the Montagnette: 360° panoramic view but exposed to the mistral.

(14) Turn back to the previous junction.

(13) Continue straight on to descend to the track, Chemin de San Salvador. Follow it to the right, keep left at the T-junction and continue to the next fork on the left under the power line.

(15) Turn left, pass under the power line, continue for about 400 m, then take the small path on the right which serves as a shortcut.

(16) Back on the track, turn right and begin a series of hairpin bends. Pass the path on your left that winds through the Ravin de Millet and reach a junction by a cistern.

(17) Turn right, heading north, onto the wide path leading back towards Boulbon for about 800 m. It passes a hill on the left.

(18) Leave the track and turn left onto a path that runs along the top of the Vallon des Esseylettes. Continue along a footpath, and after a few descents that are a bit steep at times but short, reach a fork.

(19) Return to Boulbon by turning left into a rocky gorge, which is slippery in wet weather. Walk past the castle on your right. You’ll emerge opposite the École Primaire des Saules; continue straight on (Rue du Barri) and you’ll reach Place Gilles Léontin (S/E).

Notes

There are many paths in the Montagnette, so a GPS can be very useful.
Access to the Montagnette may be prohibited if the fire risk is too high. Check the website.

Worth a visit

The village of Boulbon is well worth a visit.
You can stop for a drink at the Café du Commerce at the end of the walk.

An interesting and surprising hike, quite different from the ones we’ve done before.
Due to the incessant rain since January, we encountered a few sections where we got our feet wet
Right from the start: the stream was flowing across the path, then there were two fords, and the trickiest was at point 19 because there the water was in the gorge, forming a few waterfalls. But it was lovely to see as I think it must be very rare

A very interesting route with a good map, so there's no problem.
Just be careful on the way back to the castle, as there are a few tricky sections,
especially if you are tired.

A very pleasant hike. We set off with a negative preconception, because we had already done a route on La Montagnette and found it monotonous, but this route takes you past the main points of interest, including the mill and castle at Boulbon, then along the ridges. We didn't use the description, just the track, which is very reliable.

A very beautiful parish-specific to Brittany hike this Sunday under sunny skies.
We extended the route at point 13 to go to Frigolet Abbey, covering a total of 18 km.
There were some beautiful views along the way.

The difficulty with this mountain range is the abundance of paths, trails, tracks and trails, all without any signposts.
Since the last fire, it has become even more confusing.
A GPS is strongly recommended.
Otherwise, it’s a lovely, easy hike.

My understanding is that only the areas affected by the fire are off-limits. A map of these areas is included in the annex to the AP:
https://www.bouches-du-rhone.gouv.fr/con...
The route of the hike is outside these areas.
Do you have any further evidence to support your position?
