The final section of the Quilotoa circular route presents no particular technical difficulties. However, there is a final ascent up the volcano which requires good stamina. Please note: this route ends at the viewpoint overlooking the lake, but there’s still a 1½-hour walk around the crater rim – quite windy, very impressive – with sections that really do skirt the very edge of the crater on the way to the village of Quilotoa. Stunning! After three days’ walking, the view of the Laguna is simply extraordinary. The path is well signposted
