Cheriton Mill and Tichborne from Cheriton

Pleasant walk with some nice views of the rolling Hampshire Hills and River Itchen.
Route description and map were easy enough to follow. Another reviewer's comment about mud at Trood's Copse is worth noting - I wouldn't walk this again unless it's been dry for a while or frozen ground.
For anyone who needs level ground, there's a number of stiles between Cheriton and Cheriton Mill that may be a challenge.

Nice pleasant walk with some good view points. The start of the walk was very well written but the end of the walk from point 4 wasn't clear at all and we struggled to find the right way marks and ended up doing a large detour, if these points were better explained and maybe an indication of the gaps between pointers the walk would have achieved a higher rating as overall a nice not too challenging afternoon stroll.

An interesting walk accurately written. We didn't meet many people on this walk mainly local dog walkers. Looking at the ground there were areas of clay so we think it could be a little messy in wet weather. But for us we had terrific weather a relatively easy walk, brilliant thank you.

We enjoyed this gentle walk on an overcast Sunday afternoon. Just after (1) we went slightly off course as the footpath goes through a wheat field and is not clear. We went round the edge of the field but picked up the route again successfully at the next field, where it is much clearer. Muddy by Trodd’s Copse following recent heavy rains. Several confusing paths at (4) but I think we took the intended one! Some beautiful views and impressive houses and gardens along the way.

A decent trip of 3 hours. Pleased it had quite a few ups and downs as well as a number of pleasing views.
There were a numbers of maps along the route relating to permissive paths and these were very helpful.
Only got lost once which resulted in completing three sides of a field rather than one.
A few potentially wet places along the way but we had no trouble after a couple of days without rain.
Worth doing and would recommend.

Lovely walk that was tranquil, both from lack of road noise and other people. It is worth checking the start beforehand on google maps street view ("yellow man") as Hill House lane is at the northern end of the small village green. The directions are then easy to follow with my only addition being that when heading to Pt4 along the track there is a signposted bridleway that forks off to the left and then runs parallel to the track on the other side of the hedge for several hundred metres. We didn't take this and instead continued with the track and after a while started to doubt ourselves but eventually got to a signposted bridleway which headed off sharply left and subsequently joined the bridleway that had been the original left fork. On reflection I believe that we correctly followed the directions and had we taken the initial left fork we would have corner cut as mentioned by the previous reviewer. We enjoyed the walk and will definitely recommend it to friends & family.

A lovely peaceful stroll through the River Itchen hinterland. We deviated at the start to take in the Church and exited from the rear of the churchyard to join the path at Hill Houses Lane. A pretty gentle walk following the River Itchen to the Cheriton Mill.
It was blackberry season so we took our pots with us which were full to overflowing by the time we had finished.
I found the instructions clear and accurate although at point 4 I did become confused because there was a track leading off left which clearly was the way to go, so we took this. Once we joined the path again to ascend House Hill it was clear we had cut the corner by 300 metres or so. Just a lovely easy walk, not too hard, although the climb up to Trodds Copse came as a bit of a surprise after the ease of walking and got the heart working harder. But there is a seat strategically placed at the top so a few minutes taking in the views was very welcome. Lovely villages and beautiful Hampshire countryside.
I think I might give the walk 7.5 out of 10.

Good walk, some of early parts of the walk approx at 2km, the path very narrow as overgrown. Otherwise directions good and some great views at approx 10km.

The first half of the walk was quite beautiful...rolling farmland and hedgerows brimming with butterflies and wildflowers.
Slight confusion at Titchbourne about the right route...description was a bit confusing and the dreaded red line covered the map directions. Also at the start..not sure the directions were that clear.
Beautiful villages. All together a lovely walk and not too taxing on a hot day.

The instructions for the start were slightly confusing, which did send us off in the wrong direction. However once we sorted this out the rest of the walk rout was excellent

This was a lovely walk. The route description was mostly good although we found it difficult to find exactly where the start was and waypoint 4 was confusing.The timing was accurate and overall this was a lovely and enjoyable walk thank you very much

Finishing with a pint & toasted sandwich at the Camra rated Flower Pots pub was a bonus.

Easy and interesting walking - more so if you have the Hampshire County Council leaflet on the Battle of Cheriton, as this walk takes you round the battlefield.
