Chalucet castle and Ligoure woodland

Start: Start from the car park below Château de Chalucet (Castle) (access via the D32a).

(S/E) From the car park, walk towards the small bridge over the Briance and take the path on the left which runs alongside the river on your right. Follow this wide path along the riverside past the 'Amis de Chalucet' house.

(1) Ignore the path on the left which you will use on your way back, and continue along the Briance, turning left to rejoin the Ligoure. Cross the footbridge.

(2) Continue straight on uphill, following the 'Forêt de Ligoure interpretation trail' (waymarker). The path climbs, bends right and then left.

(3) As you reach the purple sign, turn left onto the path. Follow the interpretation trail straight ahead, then after the plaque dedicated to Albert, enter the estate through a small gate on the right. Continue along the path, which crosses a small bridge with wooden barriers over a stream. A little further on, ignore the left-hand path and follow the sign to the remains of the fish farm.

(4) Retrace your steps for about 150 m and take the first path on the right, which winds around the hillside in a wide loop.

(5) At the Y-junction, take the right-hand path and keep to it until it winds down to the left to join Ligoure riverside. Follow the river as far as the Snow White house (Blanche Neige).

(6) Go past the house and continue straight ahead along the river. Pass a wooden mushroom-shaped tree; the path climbs up to the left for 100 m to a signpost and a path which descends to the right.

(7) Go down this path, then ford the river on the left. Follow the path alongside the Ligoure on your right: this little path has some tricky sections until you reach the bridge you previously crossed.

(2) Cross the bridge again and follow the same wide path as before, following the Briance. This time, take the first path on the right up to the ruined castral village. After 50 m, turn left and pass the Tour Jeanette, which can be visited with its fine panoramic views. Continue uphill along the path to the castle entrance gate. Return and follow the path around the castle to the rear.

(8) Then, retrace your steps along the same path, handrailing the castle, which is now on your left, then take the path downhill (white arrow on purple background) to the right, and join the Briance at the 'Amis de Chalucet' house.

(1) Follow the wide path to the right along the Briance and find the car park (S/E).
