Description of the route

We left at 11 a.m. from the mountain bike rental shop and returned around 4.30 p.m. (5.5 hours in total). We took our time to visit every noteworthy spot on the island.
But if you don't stop everywhere, the route can be completed in 3 to 3.5 hours.

Notes

There are no shops outside Caleta del Sebo, so bring containers with water (at least 1.5L or even 2L per person) and food if you plan to tour the island during the day.

The roads are very basic and used by jeeps and other 4x4s, which ruin the road surface, creating small bumps that are very unpleasant when cycling. Try to stick to small paths running parallel to the main roads if possible.

Most of the elevation gain by bike is between Pedro Barba and Caleta del Sebo. The ride can be done in either direction, but the northern part of the island is the most interesting to see and explore, so we decided to spend more time there and do that side first.

It is possible to swim at Pedro Barba or Caleta del Sebo, as the other beaches are far too dangerous to risk.

Worth a visit

Be careful not to stray from the paths. Some people tried to do so during our visit and were caught by locals in 4x4s and had a rough time. For each visit to a remarkable place on foot, small bicycle parking areas are available where your bike will be safe.

Take a short detour via a side path before (or after, depending on the direction) Baja del Ganado for a breathtaking view of the nature reserve in the south of the island and the entire west coast.

It is possible to climb to the top of Montana Bermeja, which offers an incredible panorama. Allow 30 minutes for the ascent/descent on foot.

It is also possible to walk to the basalt arches of Baja de las Maspalomas, which are very impressive, but be careful not to fall.

The small beach of Pedro Barba is a good place to enjoy the sun and a swim in the small artificial cove of this former fishing village.
