Circular Bonhomme, Belvédère Haute Pierre - Faurupt - Haicot - Col Bagenelles

This easy circular route, on small mountain roads and very passable paths, will take you to the heights of Le Bonhomme towards the Col des Bagenelles, offering you beautiful postcard views of the Vosges mountain pastures.
Taken in May, this walk can also be done in summer to escape the heatwave in the Alsace plain.
The Club Vosgien markings are provided for information purposes only, as they may change over time.

Description of the walk

Park in the village of Le Bonhomme, 20 Rue du 3ème Spahis Algériens.
Take advantage of one of the six parking spaces, which are usually free on public holidays.

(S/E) Take the Chemin du Rain des Fourches in the opposite direction, following the yellow rectangle signposted Brézouart, Aubure, Col des Bagenelles. The small road climbs steeply and quickly reaches an intersection.

(1) Leave the marked path and follow the small road to the right. Pass the Haute Pierre farm and follow the circular road. When you reach another road, turn right and continue for 50 metres to reach the Haute Pierre viewpoint.

(2) Return to the road that climbs gently opposite. You will reach a large crossroads and come back to the starting point at a farm.

(3) Follow it to the right to reach a bend and discover a beautiful viewpoint. Then reach Faurupt.

(4) Take the path that climbs above the farm on the right. After a left-hand bend, you will see the Chalet de Haut Pré in the forest. Continue along the same path to soon reach a large crossroads (with a grassy central island) offering a beautiful view of the valley.

(5). Do not follow the Col des Bagenelles but turn right onto the path marked Haïcot, which follows theGR® and soon arrives at a picnic area.

(6) Continue to the Haïcot farm where you can eat (booking recommended in season).

(7) At the circular bend in the road, take the small path across the meadow, which soon enters the forest. Do not be tempted to follow the slope; the signposts indicate a path that winds its way down the slope and leads to a large forest path further down.

(8) Continue on the left towards the Col des Bagenelles. The forest path, which is accessible in winter on skis or snowshoes, winds its way up to the pass for 2 km, which may seem a little long, but has the advantage of being away from cars and cool during the hot summer months. Soon you will reach the Col des Bagenelles.

(9) Follow the D48 on the left, which descends to Le Bonhomme.

(10) After the first circular bend, take the small road on the left that leads to Les Hobels. On the way, say hello to the horned Vosges cows, and after about 900 metres, you will come to a large crossroads.

(11) Continue on the road to the left that passes between the farms where you can buy cheese and stay on the road until you reach the starting point. You will soon arrive at the Minoux farm junction that you passed on the way there.

(4) Continue downhill.

(3) Keep to the road on the right so as not to return to the viewpoint you visited at the start. Stay on the road that descends to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(1) Take the reverse route of the outward journey to return to Le Bonhomme (S/E).

Worth a visit

Several farms sell mountain cheeses, so don't hesitate to ring the bell when you see the signs inviting you to do so.
The Haïcot farmhouse inn serves meals, but it is advisable to book in advance.
At the Col des Bagatelles, there is an information station on domestic renewable energy.
The picnic area mentioned above has two tables seating 8 to 10 people.
There is no shelter along the way except for the farms.

One of my favourite hikes in the Vosges. This walk through the high-altitude meadows dotted with alpine farms is incredibly refreshing and a real change of scenery. I loved this hike – it’s very easy to follow and presents no technical difficulties. What’s more, the route is far removed from the main routes and busy roads. Perfect

Something to do one day.

I prefer quiet forest paths too, rather than trails where everyone’s jostling for space.

One of my favourite hikes in the Vosges. This route through the high-altitude meadows dotted with alpine farms is incredibly refreshing and a real change of scenery. I loved this hike – it’s very easy to follow. There are no technical difficulties. What’s more, you avoid the overcrowded routes and the hellish traffic on the Crêtes, which suits me perfectly.

Very beautiful route, a bit too much tarmac for my taste, but otherwise beautiful views of the valley, 16.92 km for a 4 hour 50 minute walk.

An excellent hike with superb views. Of course, a large part of it is on tarmac roads, but that's not a problem as there is very little traffic (except for a hundred metres or so at the Bagenelles pass).
This hike is superb and highly recommended, unless you don't want to walk on tarmac roads. (I don't usually like this, but in the case of this hike, I'm willing to do it again because it's so beautiful).

I clearly mentioned in the presentation that the route follows roads.
So there is no reason to be disappointed. However, some may prefer more rugged routes that only use trails.
On the other hand, the appeal of the route lies more in the views it offers and the passage through isolated areas.
Personal note: sometimes the trails are less quiet and less clear than the small mountain roads that lead to farms... but everyone has their own preferences!
Enjoy your walks, everyone.

As mentioned in yesterday's post by LEROUGEDANI (an admirer of Daniel Cohn Bendit, alias Dany le Rouge?), the view over the valleys and stubble fields is superb, but much of the hike is on tarmac, which is a shame!

Hello everyone, disappointing hike: two-thirds of the 17 km were on tarmac, the rest on forest paths.

A beautiful hike without any major difficulties. A beautiful rural setting that winds its way between meadows and farms. I invite you to visit the farms to discover their local specialities. I recommend parking in another car park in the starting village to avoid traffic.

Pleasant walk. No technical difficulties. Numerous viewpoints. A bit too much walking on tarmac paths.
