Description of the walk

Start : Big Dog carpark, Enniskillen (BT93 6GL) along Knockmore Road (C445).

(S/E) From the car park, follow the black route North-North-West as indicated by the way marked posts. The walk takes you along forest tracks for around 1.2 Km, before opening out to bisect Lough Nabrickboy, providing magnificent views of this upland lake.

(1) As you reach a junction, find a picnic area here where you can enjoy a little feast before meandering through the forest on your right (North) to skirt the shoreline of Lough Doo. Pause a moment amidst the tranquility of this south-facing shoreline before moving on.

(2) At the path junction, travel back towards Lough Nabrickboy by taking left (South-West) and walk back to Waypoint (1).

At the path junction this time take right (South-West) to do not miss on one of the highlights of this route, the short but rewarding climb to the top of Little Dog, offering great 360 degree views of the surrounding area.

(3) After enjoying the view, return back to the junction at Waypoint (1) then turn right this time to retrace your steps towards the car park following the way marked posts (black route). (S/E)

Worth a visit

Possibly the most intriguing features along the walk are the two hills Big Dog and Little Dog. Their names originate from Irish Folklore as they are named after Bran and Skeola (Sceolan), two of the legendary Finn MacCool’s favourite wolfhounds.
