Bacivèr Lakes in Val d'Aran

This is a beautiful circuit in the Val d'Aran, through the Vaqueira mountains to Naut and Baish de Bacivèr Lakes.
Although it's a short loop, it requires an established fitness level to climb the first half of the route.
The effort will be rewarded by the arrival at Lac Naut de Bacivèr, the highest point of the hike.

Description of the walk

In order to access and park at Orri car park, leave the village of Baqueira heading North towards Beret and Orri.

To do this, take Calle Placita Beret, C-142B, which runs past the Val de Ruda hotel.
The road twists and turns for about 6.5 km before you come to the Parking Orri sign on the right.
This car park belongs to the Baqueira-Beret ski area.

(S/E) From the car park, head for the cable car cabin. Go around it, passing under the lift cables. Approach and pass the Moët Winter Lounge. Begin the ascent on the wide dirt and pebble track, HRP Variant 25.1. Reach a kind of fork with a narrow trail off to the right, to be ignored.

(1) Continue straight ahead on the wide track. After a wide bend to the right, find a small path leading off to the left, altitude marked 2014.

(2) Leave the wide white track, HRP Variante 25.1, and take this path. The trail joins the HRP track and leaves it again, twice more. In its final non-HRP section, Baish de Bacivèr Lake comes into view.

(3) Junction with the HRP, above Baish de Bacivèr Lake. The track is gravelled and runs alongside a torrent. A small waterfall trickles halfway along. Further on, meet a Y junction.

(4) Continue to follow the water line, leaning to the left. Stones stand like menhirs, directing the path to Naut de Bacivèr Lake, 2330 m above sea level.

(5) Continue along the lake for approx. 300 m. Leave the HRP and follow the right-hand curve around the hill to reach the Y junction.

(4) Go back the way you came and return to the junction with the HRP.

(3) Stay on the HRP, which joins the shore of Lac Baish de Bacivèr, at its north-western corner.

(6) Keep HRP Variant 25.1 and a general NW direction.

(7) Remain on the right bank of Ruisseau Malo and on the right-hand track leading back down to the intersection you passed on the outward journey.

(2) Go back the way you came to return to the Parking Orri (S/E).

Practical information

Warning: no water source.
Baqueira-Beret ski area
The Moët Winter Lounge is closed in summer.

The tour will follow almost the entire HRP Variant 25.1 except for a short section halfway up and an even shorter one leaving Lac Dalt de Bacivèr.

However please note

The Haute Randonnée Pyrénéenne is not signposted as such. It is not a path to be followed, but rather a trace that each person builds and borrows as he or she wishes.
Consequently, it is best to follow the GPS track or the printed map.

To take part in the Pujada and make a shorter ascent from Spain, there are numerous refuges at Alós d'Isil.
Accommodation is available at Refugi del Fornet to start the climb from a higher altitude.

The language spoken is Spanish, apart from Catalan and Occitan.
