Small car park at the starting point on the D5.
(S/E) Cross the D5, take the GR 4, straight ahead in a north-westerly direction until you reach the intersection with theGR®30.
(1) Turn right onto the GR 4 and continue straight ahead until you reach a large clearing at an altitude of 1093 metres.
(2) In the clearing, leave theGR® (closed by a barrier) and take the path on the right that descends into the woods. IGN map not compliant.
(3) At the crossroads, at an elevation of 1011 metres, you will see an uncultivated field on your left (a nice spot for a picnic). Take the path on the right, heading due east, and continue straight ahead. You will soon leave the forest and walk between fields.
(4) Shortly before the road, at a place called Croix Parla, take the path on the right (signpost pointing towards Fontfreyde).
(5) Continue straight ahead to the road and follow it to the right for about 100 metres. Keep to the left on a wide grassy strip to stay safe.
(6) Take the path on the right, which is blocked by a rope.
From here, the paths are marked on OSM maps but not on IGN maps.
Climb gently and take thethird path on the left.
(7) Join a path and take it to the right. You will come to a large, beautiful volcanic clearing.
(8) Turn left to reach the car park (S/E).
BEAUTIFUL HIKE, easy going, mostly in the shade of old trees, some of which are really lovely, with beautiful sunny glades full of flowers. Views of the volcanoes around us, pure bliss, with the Puy de Dôme in the background, of course. A wonderful moment to share with the family. Studded soles recommended.
