Head towards the fort, after entering the citadel take the path on the left (1) leaving the road, superb view of Angra, turn right (2) then take the path that climbs towards the picnic area (3). Take the dirt track to the viewpoint (4) over the crater then the higher viewpoint (5). Return to the picnic area (6) and enjoy another superb view of the crater (7). Descend the dirt track (8) with a few tricky sections (9), then climb back up through the woods to the road, climb to the left and return to another picnic area (with toilets) (10). Descend the volcano and leave the citadel. Head towards Angra, enjoy the beach, take note of the statue of Vasco da Gama and the church, as well as the beautiful historic houses in the town centre (11) as you pass through the market (12).
Azores - Terceira - Monte Brasil and Angra
A very pleasant walk around the crater, entering through the fortress, then a breathtaking view of the town of Angra, view of the crater, highest point, picnic area, tour of the crater, and finally a tour of the historic houses. Very varied and pleasant, one section (9) is quite steep but can be avoided.
