Discovering Yiali Beach

Yiali Beach – I can say nothing but good things about it.
A magnificent, unspoilt spot (a rarity in Corfu). Calm waters and an incredible unspoilt setting.
Be careful not to underestimate the descent or the climb back up – there’s a significant elevation gain and it’s very steep. When I visited this beach, the rope to hold on to was no longer there, so at times it’s like rock climbing. You need to be in good physical shape. Make sure you bring shoes and a rucksack so you can keep your hands free.
Part of the beach is for naturists.

Description of the walk

Park near the Chapel of the Prophet Elias; there are plenty of spaces.

(S/E) Leave the car park, continue straight ahead along a wide path heading west, then turn left.
The start of the path is wide and fairly easy. Follow this wide path to its end, taking in the beautiful panoramic views.

(1) Take a sharp right-hand bend onto a narrower path and continue downwards until you reach a more challenging section.

(2) Be careful here: the descent becomes steep; you need to be experienced and have both hands free. For the final few metres, just before the beach, it gets even trickier and you’ll need to be in good physical shape to get down (and also to get back up).

(3) Follow this route back in the opposite direction to return to the car park at the Chapel of the Prophet Elias (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : mi 0 - alt. 669 ft - La Chapelle du Prophète car park
  2. 1 : mi 0.4 - alt. 417 ft - Path
  3. 2 : mi 0.53 - alt. 118 ft - Steep descent
  4. 3 : mi 0.61 - alt. 82 ft - Yiali Beach
  5. S/E : mi 1.21 - alt. 669 ft - Chapelle du Prophète car park

Notes

There are no drinking fountains, so make sure you bring enough water.
(2) For this day out at the seaside, it’s best to opt for a rucksack rather than a beach bag and to wear sturdy shoes. Something I noticed whilst there: I saw several people who were either misinformed or wearing flip-flops having to turn back.

Worth a visit

(3) Panoramas and the beach – make the most of the beach; you’ve well and truly earned it.

A superb beach.
Suitable for physically fit people with basic climbing skills for the final section. Sturdy footwear is essential.
Take a rucksack so you have your hands free (never hold your phone in your hand 🙂)
There are ropes on the final section, but not everywhere. Some are in poor condition. Check them before using them. It’s possible to do the route without using the ropes.
Not suitable for young children or dogs
Please note: there is very little shade on the beach throughout the day.
