(3) Turn right onto thesecond small road (under a portico) which descends quite steeply towards Valmondois. In the village, at the end of Chemin de la Frette, turn right then left onto Rue Dorée, and you will soon reach a marked path (PR® andGR®1) on the left.

(4) Follow this path to the left, which alternates between woodland and open sections for about 3.5 km until you reach the village of Nesles-la-Vallée, on the D64, Rue de la Falaise. Walk about ten metres to the right then turn left (leavingthe GR®1), onto Allée René Florentin, and arrive at the old Nesles station.

(5) Continue along Rue Denis and, at the end of the lane, turn right, pass Le Sausseron then under the high-voltage power lines and arrive at a crossroads.

(6) Turn left and at the next junction, left again onto theD151E2, towards Labeville. Go straight through the hamlet of Biard and enter Labeville. (13) At the road, turn left, pass the cross on your left, then take the path immediately on your right. At the end of this, turn right and then quickly left onto the path which descends slightly and joins a wider cross-path from where you can see some sheds on the right.

(14) Continue to the right towards the hamlet of Mézières, cross the large farm in the hamlet and reach a four-way crossroads.

(15) Turn right and follow this small road for about 3 km to Livilliers.

(16) Enter Livilliers and head for the church square (where you can take a break).

(17) Then retrace your steps and turn right onto the D79, Rue de Romesnil, towards Hérouville.
Carefully navigate the roundabout, take thesecond exit and immediately turn right onto the central reservation, Chemin de la Bascule, then continue along Rue du Poteau to reach Place de l’Église.

(19) Turn right onto Chemin des Marivaux (no entry except for agricultural vehicles), and head straight across the fields. At the end of this road, turn left and at the next junction, go straight ahead onto Chemin du Haut Buisson; after a steep descent, enter Auvers-sur-Oise, in the Valhermeil district, via Rue de Valhermeil and reach number 9.

(20) Turn left onto Rue des Roches, then continue straight on, passing through Rue Simone le Danois, Rue des Meulières, Rue François Coppé, Rue du Docteur Gachet and Rue Victor Hugo, until you reach a Stop sign opposite Château de Léry.

Thank you for this superb loop, which not only takes us on a tour of the Vexin region but also allows us to discover or rediscover Van Gogh and what inspired him in Auvers-sur-Oise. The route is varied, taking in woodland, footpaths, small roads and crossings through fields. A real treat (done at the end of August 2025 in the middle of the week, there was hardly anyone there)
It took me four hours (including a few breaks to take photos and a detour to see Van Gogh's grave and the field featured in his famous painting), not counting the picnic break
Just to clarify, it's at stage 13 that you cross the fields. It's not complicated, but I preferred to dismount and push my bike for about 20 metres because the stones and holes weren't suitable for my hybrid bike (I think it's best to avoid this if it rained heavily the day before).
The final detour between 19 and 21 is worth it to leave the main road and return to Auvers-sur-Oise via a very pretty path.

A top route under the July sun – Vincent Van Gogh’s wheat fields are still there :) Sections through woodland give way to open stretches, with a lovely climb after the hamlet of Rhus, and a few rollercoaster-like sections towards the end of the hike – challenging but great fun. The route is very well described.

The GPX track was imported into my GPS watch and easy to follow; I didn’t encounter any surprises and didn’t need the map extracts. Some sections, particularly those across fields, are quite rough (and my back suffered a bit as a result), that said, I recommend it, and I also recommend the lovely lady, located halfway along the route (with a slight detour), who prepares Mauritian specialities to order (“l’Escapade Mauricienne”, in Grisy-les-Plâtres), which you can enjoy in a quiet park right next door.

The Vexin is a beautiful, wooded, rolling region with a rich heritage and well-preserved villages.
