Waypoints

  1. S : km 0 - alt. 519 m
  2. 1 : km 0.06 - alt. 518 m - Follow the track that heads eastwards from the Horse Stone.
  3. 2 : km 0.41 - alt. 494 m - The track gets a little vague. It is there through. Eventually it works around to the Crow Stones. Firstly it heads to some large boulders through which a beck tumbles.
  4. 3 : km 1.07 - alt. 466 m - After crossing the beck (with the large boulders) take the (more obvious now) track up to the Crow Stones.
  5. 4 : km 1.67 - alt. 513 m - Follow the obvious track south eastwards from the Crow Stones.
  6. 5 : km 2.11 - alt. 500 m - The track becomes less distinct in the heather. Follow the contour of the hill. Look out for the grouse butts and the wooden posts along the line of them.
  7. 6 : km 2.32 - alt. 496 m - Do a short out-and-back, down the clough (following the line of grouse butts) to see the significant amount of wreckage for aircraft Consul TF-RPM.
  8. 7 : km 2.47 - alt. 502 m - Take an obvious track to the north east, towards the obvious edge.
  9. 8 : km 2.81 - alt. 529 m - At the foot of the edge, the track turns northwards and leads up to Outer Edge's trig.
  10. 9 : km 2.94 - alt. 540 m - Follow the obvious track heading to the south east. This follows the contour line to the Cut Gate Path. You will be stages where you drift away from the path due to the bogs. It is fairly an obvious path though and even if you don't use it all the time, it's a good navigational handrail.
  11. 10 : km 4.23 - alt. 529 m - Follow the obvious Cut Gate path to the northeast.
  12. 11 : km 5.5 - alt. 497 m - Look out for a track to the right. Unfortunately there is no cairn to signify the point. It is an obvious track when you are on it though.
  13. 12 : km 6.03 - alt. 479 m - At the boundary stone, head northwards over trackless moor until reaching the obvious track that leads down Sugden Clough.
  14. 13 : km 6.47 - alt. 455 m - Follow the obvious track down Sugden Clough.
  15. 14 : km 8.53 - alt. 297 m - Follow the footpath sign that leads to a track that goes to the west of Thickwoods. This leads down to Langsett Reservoir.
  16. 15 : km 9.05 - alt. 251 m - Follow the permissive path through the woods, that stays fairly close to the reservoir.
  17. 16 : km 9.46 - alt. 264 m - Take the track that heads off uphill on your right (the turnoff isn't that obvious). It is an obvious path when you are on it. This leads uphill through the woods.
  18. 17 : km 9.88 - alt. 279 m - At the gate out of the woods, turn left and take the path to the road.
  19. 18 : km 10.16 - alt. 257 m - Cross the road and traverse the stile. Follow the footpath signs. These lead down to The Porter Of The Don.
  20. 19 : km 10.62 - alt. 213 m - Follow the footpath signs over the fields to Midhope Lane.
  21. 20 : km 11.3 - alt. 217 m - Follow the road to Midhopestones.
  22. 21 : km 12.83 - alt. 194 m - At the junction, turn left and follow the road.
  23. 22 : km 13.08 - alt. 186 m - Take care crossing the A616. Continue along the road on the other side.
  24. 23 : km 13.15 - alt. 192 m - At the bend in the road, turn left and look for the footpath sign leading up into the woods on the right. Follow the footpath signs uphill. These go woodland initially, but then goes through fields.
  25. 24 : km 14.03 - alt. 315 m - Follow the track to Mossley Road.
  26. 25 : km 14.37 - alt. 313 m - Turn left and then right on to the bridleway.
  27. 26 : km 15.24 - alt. 277 m - Turn right and follow the road.
  28. 27 : km 15.78 - alt. 261 m - Turn left and then the footpath to the right.
  29. 28 : km 16.14 - alt. 251 m - Go through the farmyard and continue over the stone stile into the field.
  30. 29 : km 16.54 - alt. 231 m - Turn left on the lane until reaching Long Lane.
  31. 30 : km 16.98 - alt. 227 m - Turn right on to Long Lane.
  32. 31 : km 17.18 - alt. 219 m - Follow the signed footpath to the left. This goes through gates and over stiles.
  33. 32 : km 17.61 - alt. 210 m - Don't go under the bridge. Take a track to the left. This leads on to the Trans Pennine Trail. Follow the Trans Pennine Trail back to Penistone Train Station.
  34. E : km 18.49 - alt. 215 m
