Leave the coastal path to go uphill past a pumping station for the former Michael Colliery - see the weblink to a 1913 map, showing the extensive, related rail network. Walk along wooded paths to reach a view point across the Firth of Forth. Next, head to Coaltown of Wemyss along tree lined paths, before following countryside paths to the area of the former Wemyss Colliery. Look for the tree root, cuddling architectural stonework. Retrace along paths to cross the A955 at the former Wemyss Estate, East Lodge. After going through East Wemyss Den, past MacDuff Castle ruins, the route goes down steps to return to the start along the coastal path. In East Wemyss, note all the community work carried out by the Wemyss Improvement Group: The A955 road has to be crossed several times.
