Waypoints

  1. S : km 0 - alt. 44 m - From the London bound platform, exit the station and turn left along Station Road. (If you arrive on the Portsmouth bound platform, there is also a level exit from this platform so there is no need to lug a bike over the footbridge. On leaving the station from the Portsmouth bound platform, follow the access road to its junction with Summers Road and turn right. Continue forward through the shops to cross the level-crossing and join the main route at point 2,)
  2. 2 : km 0.15 - alt. 44 m - Turn right onto Farncombe Street. (There is a range of shops and cafes in Farncombe if you want some refreshment before you set off.) - Shops and cafes
  3. 3 : km 0.49 - alt. 56 m - Turn left up Farncombe Hill
  4. 4 : km 0.81 - alt. 81 m - Where Farncombe Hill becomes Twycross Road (signed) urn off right onto a disused road. It's rather overgrown so look carefully for the turn. You will probably need to dismount to get over the kerb which now blocks the road from easy access. (It is quite a steep climb but this route is quieter than the alternative along Twycross Road so you can comfortably get off and push if you wish. There is also a pleasant view along the way.)
  5. 5 : km 1.06 - alt. 91 m - Go through the gate and continue forward along Huxley Close
  6. 6 : km 1.2 - alt. 95 m - Turn right onto Twycross Road.
  7. 7 : km 1.29 - alt. 92 m - Turn right onto Charterhouse Road.
  8. 8 : km 2.25 - alt. 99 m - Turn left onto Hurtmore Road
  9. 9 : km 3.26 - alt. 75 m - Continue forward and under the busy A3. (The Squirrel Inn to your right, provides a refreshment point if required.) - Pub
  10. 10 : km 3.78 - alt. 77 m - Turn slight right onto Grenville Road
  11. 11 : km 4.56 - alt. 75 m - Keep forward at the grass triangle.
  12. 12 : km 4.79 - alt. 61 m - Continue forward along The Street at the small village green in Shackleford. (The Post Office opposite the green opens in the mornings and is also a small general store. Small quantities of most provisions are available: milk, bread, eggs, tinned foods, green groceries, magazines, greeting cards, stationery and sweets as well as post office and cash services. The Cyder House Inn is a short distance along Peper Harow Lane to your left. It is a comfortable and spacious, family run pub offering a good range of food and drinks. You will be welcomed by landlord and landlady, Tony and Emma. Note: The Cyder House Inn is closed on Tuesdays.) - Shop and pub
  13. 13 : km 4.98 - alt. 62 m - Turn left along Lombard Street. The finger-post in the middle of the junction indicates 'Cutmill'.
  14. 14 : km 7.96 - alt. 56 m - Turn sharp left onto Suffield Lane
  15. 15 : km 9.9 - alt. 45 m - At the bottom of the hill, turn left onto Farnham Road. (Take care. Thus is a 'B' road and can be busy. You will turn off gain in under half-a-mile.)
  16. 16 : km 10.19 - alt. 45 m - (The Mill pub is on your right.) - Pub
  17. 17 : km 10.45 - alt. 51 m - Turn right at the village green in Elstead into Thursley Road. (There are seats on the village green and a general store. Just past the store and around the corner you will find a cafe.) - Shop and cafe
  18. 18 : km 10.82 - alt. 52 m - At the church, turn right into Westbrook Hill
  19. 19 : km 11.26 - alt. 47 m - Seat
  20. 20 : km 11.78 - alt. 50 m - At the end of the tarmacked road, continue forward and slightly to the right along the track.
  21. 21 : km 11.82 - alt. 49 m - The next 3 miles are off-road. The path is mostly good with some short sections of sand that may need to be walked. There are some localised muddy patches but these are not 'wall to wall' (although may get so after heavy rain.) The path undulates in places.
  22. 22 : km 13.56 - alt. 52 m - (There is a seat by Stockbridge Pond if you want to rest and take in the view.) - Seat
  23. 23 : km 14.17 - alt. 64 m - Cross Tilford Road and continue forward along the track.
  24. 24 : km 16.2 - alt. 59 m - Bear right along Priory Lane.

  28. 28 : km 17.93 - alt. 71 m - There is a Post Office/Village Store on the left and, short distance further on, a Pub on the right. - Refreshment point
  29. 29 : km 18.27 - alt. 67 m - Seat
  30. 30 : km 19.15 - alt. 75 m - Bear left at the triangle to continue along West End Lane.
  31. 31 : km 19.46 - alt. 69 m - Continue forward along West End Lane at the second triangle.
  32. 32 : km 20.39 - alt. 68 m - Turn left along Boundary Road and then almost immediately right onto the track (Hardings Road - unsigned).
  33. 33 : km 20.75 - alt. 80 m - Keep forward at each cross path. (Compared to many of the routes in the forest, this track is poorly maintained. Much of it is covered with decomposing leaf litter through which a gully of soft shingle has been warn by water erosion. It is also steep and, unless you are an experienced all terrain rider with the right type of bike, you will probably need to get of and push for a few hundred yards.)
  34. 34 : km 21.44 - alt. 111 m - Continue forward along Hardings Road to arrive at the Alice Holt Forest Centre where you will find a variety of facilities including a cafe and toilets. For details, see: https://www.forestry.gov.uk/aliceholt - Cafe and toilets
  35. E : km 21.46 - alt. 111 m
