Description of the walk

Park at the Anse Couleuvre car park.

(S/E) Cross the stream and you’ll soon reach a three-way junction.

(1) Take the path on the left towards Anse Couleuvre and head down to the beach. 

(2) Turn back until you reach the junction.

(1) Turn left to rejoin the walking route towards Grand Rivière: viewpoint over the Rocher de la Perle. Continue to the next junction. 

(3) Head straight on towards Anse Lévrier. Join the path at the end of the cove, walk for about 200 m, then turn left to reach Anse à Voile

(4) Walk up the coconut tree-lined path and turn left to head back towards the Couleuvre / Grand Rivière trail. Please note, this section is less well signposted than the rest: expect to cross a stream and there are plenty of trees to admire! Rejoin the main trail.

(5) Turn right.

(3) Follow the route back in the opposite direction to the way out by turning left.

(1) Carry on straight ahead, cross the stream again and reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

An easy and varied walk, featuring three beautiful, distinct coves, natural scenery, coconut palms, a lovely viewpoint and a route that’s almost entirely shaded and breezy. 

Access is via the Anse Couleuvre car park, which can get quite busy. 

Make sure you bring water (there’s sometimes a stall in the car park, but not always) and your swimming costume!

(S/E) You can save the first return trip to Anse Couleuvre for the end of the walk, with a fresh coconut bought from the car park. By walking a short way along the beach to the left, you can cross a stream and enjoy a second, quieter cove accessible from the Anse Couleuvre holiday home.

I’d like to recommend another short route:
Go and have a look at the Anse Couleuvre waterfall!
—> The start is at the same point as the start of this walk. Just below the car park, you’ll see a wooden signpost pointing in that direction. It says it’s 1.6 km to the waterfall, but it’s actually more like 2.5 km, so don’t panic.
No major difficulties!
You can’t go wrong as there’s only one path!
You might get your feet wet as there are a few places where you’ll have to wade across the stream (depending on whether it’s the dry season, if it rained the day before, etc.) 🤞

- As for the initial walk, personally I ended up at Anse Couleuvre beach as that’s where the path comes back and I’d planned to go for a swim there.
- However, during peak tourist season, it might be better to head for the other two beaches for a swim, as there’s a bit of a walk involved – you might be lucky enough to find fewer people there!
