Car park at the Bibracte Museum, 2 Route Jacques-Gabriel Bulliot, 71990 Saint-Léger-sous-Beuvray, 3 km from the village centre.
(S/E) On leaving the Bibracte Museum car park, turn left (watch out for traffic). Continue to the Fork in the Road at the next junction.
(1) Carry on along the D18, straight on towards Villapourçon. There are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and Mont Beuvray. Follow this departmental road as far as Le Puits.
(2) Turn left onto the D27 towards Glux-en-Glenne, and head down towards the La Roche valley, lined with meadows. You’ll reach the junction with the D507.
(3) Take the hairpin bend to the left, towards Petiton. Go round the hamlet, staying on the same road, and continue along Route de Petiton. Carry on straight ahead until you reach a four-way junction at Crot des Hâtes.
(4) Carry on straight ahead (D507) until you reach the junction with the D192 (view of La Roche Castle, which overlooks the valley at Larochemillay).
(5) Turn left onto the D192, heading towards Poil. Before the village of Larochemillay, turn right onto Rue de la Chapelle and climb the steep road to the next junction.
(6) Turn right onto Rue du Château and head towards the square with the church and the castle. Then continue left onto Route de Luzy, then left again onto Rue de la Tour, and return to the junction you have already passed.
(6) Turn right onto Rue des Anciennes Écoles and head downhill to the D192. Continue to the right and stay on this road until you reach Ettevaux Castle.
(7) Carry on along the D192, turning left then right, until you reach a three-way junction.
(8) Take the small road on the right, towards Les Banchots, then, shortly afterwards, take the path on the right. Follow the path alongside a pond and, when you reach the road, turn left. After a descent, you’ll come to a four-way junction.
(9) Turn left, go round Château de Villette on the right, then reach a crossroad (D192).
(10) Turn right; at the three-way junction that follows, in Mousseau, turn onto the small road on the left, pass the access road to Mousseau Castle and reach a fork in the road.
(11) Turn right, cross the main road and, at the next junction, turn left to reach the end of Rue du Moulin in Poil. There’s a mill and a pretty little church here. Don’t forget to take a souvenir photo in Poil!
(12) Turn left onto Route de Champrobert, then immediately right onto the C4, heading towards Saint-Léger-sur-Bienne.
(13) Pass Cognières Pond and carry on straight ahead. Pass Château Concley on your right and continue to a side road.
(14) Turn right, cross the river twice and, after the memorial stone, carry on straight ahead until you reach thefirst road on the right.
(15) Take the hairpin bend to the right, pass through the hamlets of Montandé and then Le Gué, and arrive at a three-way junction at Bas du Jeu.
(16) Turn left, then at the next junction (Château du Jeu on the left), continue to the right, pass Maison Neuve and reach the next crossroads.
(17) Turn left onto Route de Beuvray and follow the D114 towards Saint-Léger-sous-Beuvray.
(18) Drive as close as possible alongside the Étang de Poisson (Étang des Gaulois) and continue straight on to Saint-Léger-sous-Beuvray (shops). In the village, turn left onto Rue de l’Église, pass in front of Saint-Léger Church, then drive alongside the squares on your right until you reach Route de Bribracte (D3).
(19) Turn left onto this road, heading towards Bibracte, and follow this departmental road to the museum car park (S/E).
