(S/E) A few parking spaces in front of the fenced-off building.
(1) Leave the road before the hairpin bend by taking the path opposite and follow it.
(2) Pass to the right of the two houses following the path or, if necessary, go round via the olive groves above.
Return to the path and follow it to the road from Psarou to Gerakari.
(3) Once on the road, turn right and follow it for 250m.
(4) At a Y-junction, turn left to pass between the houses and leave the road on your right which climbs up to Gerakari. At the next junction, continue to the right.
(5) At the fork in the road, take the path on the right and ignore the one going down to the left.
Follow this path to a small road. Then turn right onto this small road which climbs towards Gerakari for 250m.
(6) Turn left onto a path and follow it to a villa on the right.
(7) Head up to the right of the villa.
(8) The path narrows through the olive trees – follow the GPS track for 100m, veering slightly to the right then sharply to the left (south-southeast).
(9) You’ll come to a clearer path. Follow it to the right until you enter Mezo Gerakari, turning left twice.
(10) You’ll arrive opposite the Church of the Holy Trinity. Turn right, then immediately left onto the street to go round it.
(11) On your left, an old gate (possibly restored or preserved from the 1953 earthquake) leads to a chapel – a beautiful viewpoint over the valley. Head back down the road, which may be busy, leaving the Lofos tavern on your left, and eventually reach the pass separating the two hills (Ano and Mezo Gerakari).
Head up the steep, concrete slope opposite towards Saint Nicholas Church.
(12) Climb up to the forecourt of Saint Nicholas for a stunning 360° view:towards Laganas Bay, the plain and mountains, or towards Alykes Bay (view of the island of Corfu). Head back down through the village of Ano Gerakari and its small square.
(13) Walk around the square and take the street heading north-east (the third street from the square, to the left of a single-storey house with pink-coloured render). Follow this village street until you reach a chapel.
(14) This chapel has retained its old bell tower (possibly restored or preserved following the 1953 earthquake). Head down to the road and turn left. Follow this road back to the start (S/E).
