The three villages of Vézénobres, Martignargues and Saint-Étienne

A nice little hike to discover Vézénobres, the medieval town, Martignargues the martyr and Saint-Étienne-de-l'Olm. Some good views, but mostly capitelles, the sources of the Mayre and the Payre, vineyards, olive trees in some places and paths under the oaks in others!

Description of the walk

Start : Depart from Deaux 'Valiguières

(S/E) Cross the main road (D131) carefully in the direction of 'Gaussen' and turn left, on a pleasant path that climbs under the pines.

(1) Take the path that goes up and along the airfield and continue to the next fork.

(2) Turn left and follow the direction of Vézénobres via the sources of the Payre and the Mayre. At 'Le Rasclas', make a small diversion to visit the springs, they are worth it ! Keep going towards Vézénobres. Cross the top of the medieval village, always in a straight line towards the temple and the village centre.

(3) At the temple, turn left into the main street that goes down through the village towards the Saint-André church, passing by the town hall.

(4) At the church, continue down the street, taking the Rue Basse straight ahead between the old houses. At the bottom of the street, in front of the main entrance to the castle, turn left, then immediately left again the street that goes up, avoiding the archway of the Château de Calvières. At the top, turn right and reach the signpost "Château de Calvières".

(5) At the castle, cross the roundabout towards 'Le Serre'. Go down the lane opposite, following the yellow signs. At the bottom of the hill, cross the main road (D116) with caution then take the path on the right that passes through some vineyards.

(6) At 'Le Serre', turn left onto the path that climbs under the oaks to 'Les Combes'.

(7) At 'Les Combes', turn right towards Martignargues, then at 'Les Oliviers', turn left along the vineyard. Pass in front of the cemetery.

(8) In Martignargues, turn right to visit the village. Then retrace your steps.

(8) Turn right towards 'Le Pont de St Etienne'. Ignore the lane to the right, continue straight ahead. Ignore another lane on the right. At the T-junction, turn right. Then take the 3rd pathway on the right, taking care to follow the yellow dash markers. At the next intersection, turn right again. Join the D204.

(9) Cross the bridge over the Droude river and follow the road towards Saint-Étienne-de-l'Olme. Make a small diversion to visit the old castle of the village and the quaint, flowery narrow streets. Go back down to the town hall (La Mairie).

(10) At the town hall, continue downhill and then take the street on the right towards 'La Lauzière'. At the end of the street, turn left along the road and then take the path on the right after the bridge.

(11) At 'La Lauzière', turn left and follow the path. Cross the river again and leave a path on the right to take the one on the left that leads towards Deaux.

(12) At 'Combe d'Espérasse', turn left and after about 100 m turn right on the small path that goes up towards 'Les Vignasses'.

(13) Continue straight ahead. Turn right after the ruin to go back down to the starting point at Deaux 'Valliguières' (S/E).
