This short walk near Dolgellau (Gwynedd) is a wonderful route offering great views and excellent walking. An ideal route if you are short of time or if the weather only allows a shorter walk.
(D)The start is a small free car park (grid ref. SH745211) which is reached from the minor road running roughly north from Dolgellau to Llanfachreth. To start the walk take the path running behind the toilet block. This leads west beside a minor road which is followed for a short distance. A signed track leads off to the left. This leads past a solitary house after which you turn left following the signs to the "Precipice Walk". The path leads you past woodland on your left to reach an open space with a good view along the length of Llyn Cynwch.
(1)Bear right here alongside the wall walking slightly uphill and follow the sign. This leads you onto a well maintained path that is quite narrow in places. Almost immediately the views open up initially to the north. The path swings round to head southwest.
(2)The path soon becomes a narrow trod high above the valley below to your right. The ground drops away quite steeply and sufferers from vertigo might find this a little worrying. However the path is quite safe and the exposure is not severe. Ahead you get a wonderful view down to the sea along the Mawddach Estuary as far as Barmouth. The path eventually reaches less steep ground and the view ahead changes. Reaching a solitary bench you get a great view of the Cadair Idris ridge with its many summits.
(3)The path then turns east and descends once more to the shores of Llyn Cynwch. Turn left along the lake and follow the pleasant path through trees. Reaching the northern end of the lake retrace your steps back to the car park.(A)

I took my two children (age 6 and7) on this walk to help break in their new Christmas walking boots and to start exposing them to walks which don't have a play park attached to them They loved this one, it was a perfect length for them and kept them entertained the whole trip, with some beautiful views across the Barmouth Estuary to admire over a snack (there was even a well placed bench to do this). Some narrow footings but nothing to worry about a walk round the lake at the end of the trip was a nice way to finish the adventure.
Use the postcode LL40 2NG to get you most of the way there - after the 'destination has been reached' its a mere 100-200 yards left to the car park.
A lovely walk, thanks for the instructions and info
A short stroll close to Dolgellau town centre, featuring a pretty riverside walk and a historic sacred well.
A walk on little-known paths through delightful wooded country between hidden farms and valleys.
A hearty, hilly hike to the foot of Cader Idris, passing Llyn Gafr, Llyn-y-Gadair and Llyn Gwernan.
A superb viewpoint, a pretty lake and a level return through the marshes.
Along our adjacent rail trail and back via the scenic foothills of Cadair Idris.
Wooded hills behind the hotel, returning via the River Gwynant and Mawddach Trail.
Glorious mountain lakes in the shadow of Cadair, returning via the Gwynant valley.
Rhinog Fach is located in some of the roughest terrain in Snowdonia and in addition to including the summit of this rugged mountain this walk visits five of the small tarns scattered across the landscape nearby.
