Description of the walk

Start: Swanley Train Station (BR8 8JD) Grid ref. TQ 510 682

(S/E) Exit Swanley Train Station and take a right (North East) onto Station Approach. At the end of the road, take a left (North East) onto B258 (Goldsel Road).

(1) As the road splits into 2 after the bridge over the rail tracks, with the Charcoal Grill restaurant in the middle of the fork, take Station Road on your left. Continue straight (North East) on this road until you reach the roundabout.

(2) Take the footbridge on your left (North West) to walk safely over the rail tracks. Then take the pedestrian street in front of you (North West) called Asda Walk, because there is an Asda supermarket a little bit further down. When the pedestrian walk ends you arrive on London Road. Continue straight (North West) on London Road until you reach a roundabout with St Mary's Church on the left of the roundabout.

(3) Take a right (North East) at the roundabout onto Bartholomew Way and take the first road on your left, called Sycamore Drive. Walk up (North East) Sycamore Drive for 300 m and turn right (East) onto Bonney Way. Take the first street on your left (North East) called Morerton Close. After 50 m the name changes to Alexandra Close. Stay on Alexandra Close and after 180 m you arrive at Swanley Park.

(4) Enter the park via the main footpath in front of you. After 110 m, when the footpath ends, turn right (East). After 70m, the path bends to the left (North). Continue on this path in the direction of the lake which should be on your left when you reach it.

(5) Once you get to the top of the lake, turn left (West) to continue your walk alongside the bank of the lake. You then arrive at an intersection with the pier on your left and the cafe on your right. Turn right (North) and walk past the cafe and the soft play Banyard.

Continue straight (North) and you find the public toilets on your left and an exit gate in front of you. Push the gate and safely cross New Barn Road to get to the footpath on the opposite side. Walk straight (North West) on the Avenue of Limes.

(6) At the end, you come face to face with the imposing cast iron gate of the Hextable Heritage Center. The continuation of the footpath is on the right-hand side of the gate. Walk up (North West) the footpath for a couple of meters and you arrive at the Crawfords.

Walk up (North West) the Crawfords for 80 m. The road then turns into a footpath between a wooden fence and a hedge. After 210 m, you find an opening in the hedge on your right. Walk down to the field on your right (South West) and turn left onto the designated footpath on the side of the field.

If you missed the opening in the hedge and continued straight you will find yourself at a dead end and will need to retrace your steps back to the opening in the hedge.

After 140m on the side of the crops, you reach the end of the field. In front of you have 2 fields separated by a line of trees. Take the footpath on the left of the trees. Walk straight (North West) until you reach the end of the field.

(7) Then turn left (West). The entrance to Stanhill Farm is just a couple of meters further on this path. You can stop here for a rest at the farm coffee shop, enjoy their PYO patch or shop at the farm shop. After you finish your visit to Stanhill Farm, go back to the farm shop at the entrance and turn right (West) in front of the farm shop to get to Birchwood Road.

(8) Turn left (South West) onto Birchwood Road and walk down the road for 1.35 Km.

After 940 m, this is where you encounter the tricky part: there are no more sidewalks for the next 100 m and you need to share the road with the passing vehicles.

Walk safely under the tree tunnel before reaching the continuation of the sidewalk on the other side. Continue on Birchwood Road for a further 400 m until you reach the crossroad with B2173 (London Road).

(9) Turn left (South East) onto B2173. Walk down London Road for 1.3 Km. This is a busy road part of the Southwark Cathedral to Otford Way. After 1.3 Km, you arrive back at the roundabout with St Mary's Church.

(3) This time continue straight (South East) onto London Road and you arrive at the pedestrian Asda Walk.
Walk down Asda Walk. At the end, cross over Nightingale Way to get to the footbridge on the other side.

(2) Walk on the footbridge to get over the rail tracks and once on the other side turn right (South West) onto Station Road. A few meters later, the road merges with Goldsel Road. Continue (South East) on B258 (Goldsel Road). After walking above the rail tracks, take the first on your right, called Station Approach. Walk down the road until you reach Swanley Station. (S/E)
