Servon-sur-Vilaine (castle, river and mill)

A pretty, easy, well-marked walk passing by a chapel, the Château du Gué, the Ancienne Fonderie de Servon-sur-Vilaine, the Oratoire Saint-Mathurin, the Vilaine, the old mill, the protected Pas Davy site, the greenhouses (mainly tomatoes) and the calvary. The return journey takes you along a leafy driveway through a housing estate.

Description of the walk

_ Start _: From the church car park.

(S/E) After crossing the D101, head for Acigné via Rue Georges Clemenceau and turn left at the first street to a small chapel (open on Sundays).

(1) Retrace your steps and turn left into Rue Joachim Du Bellay, which becomes Rue La Baraterie after the left-hand bend. Continue, leaving a road on your right, and make another left turn. Pass the Château du Gué.

(2) Continue past Moulin du Gué, leaving Allée du Château on your left. Cross the D101 and the Vilaine by the footbridge. Follow the D101 to the right, then turn left towards the Goronnière housing estate. Follow the signs for Rue de la Goronnière, then right for Allée des Mésanges. At the next crossroads, turn left along the railroad to arrive opposite the old foundry.

(3) Follow the railway line for a while, then leave it to head back down towards the Vilaine, which you will skirt and then cross via two bridges to reach the old mill and the protected site of Pas Davy.

(4) Turn slightly right and follow the path to a road on the right, then turn left onto a track leading to the D33. Cross the road and continue towards Four Richard and the greenhouses.

(5) Continue along this path, which veers right then left before crossing the Ruisseau de la Maison Neuve. It skirts Beauvais, veers right and makes a wide left turn to reach the calvary.

(6) Leave the road on your right, continue and after about 200m, turn left into the pretty Chemin de la Noë. Turn right down a leafy lane into the La Noë housing estate (Rue Auguste Renoir).
At the end, turn left for 20m and continue right into Allée Vincent Van Gogh, then left into Rue Pasteur to find the car park (S/E).
