Description of the walk

Park at the Col des Portes car park between Vauvenargues and Rians.

(S/E) The trail starts at the south-east end of the car park. Take the path that runs alongside a pasture, then enters a small valley.

(1) Cross a forest path and take the path opposite, marked by two cairns.

Blue markings

Continue along this path until you reach a passage in the enclosure, then turn left after this passage to reach a forest path.

(2) Turn right onto this path, which will take you to the Malivert Oratory.

White and redGR® markings

(3) Take the path marked Pic des Mouches behind the oratory. This path will take you to the ridge and follow it to Pic des Mouches.

(4) Retrace your steps for about a hundred metres.

Red markings

Turn left onto the red-marked trail that goes around Garagaï de Cagoloup before descending towards Col des Portes.

(5) At the departmental road, cross it and continue straight ahead.

Yellow or blue markings

(6) When you reach a large plateau, a sign indicates the direction of the Citadel, to the left. Follow this sign.

(7) Pass the remains of dwellings, including the foundations of a chapel. Continue north-west to reach the remains of the Citadel's walls.

(8) Cross the enclosure and you will come out onto the plateau. Walk along the plateau to the northern enclosure, then follow it north-east until you reach an opening. The path continues without much difficulty until it joins a DFCI forest track.

(9) Turn right to reach the Sinne Observatory.

(10) After the dome, turn right onto the path and continue straight ahead (south-east) to reach the Col des Portes car park (S/E).

The climb was fairly easy despite the bushes that tended to invade the path in the first part. There were quite a few people at the peak on Sunday, but not too many. The descent was "marked", a little technical, and difficult for the couple accompanying us.
Overall, a good hike that is fairly easy for hikers.
I recommend it.
Thank you for the trail

We completed this beautiful excursion in its entirety during the Easter holidays. The route is very well described and enjoyable. Superb view at the summit under beautiful sunshine, but with strong winds. We were a little faster than the time mentioned on the information sheet. Thank you.

A very beautiful walk (best done after a day of mistral wind to enjoy unobstructed views), it takes you to the summit of Sainte Victoire and is not very difficult. But we cut it short: we didn't do the last circular loop to the citadel.
The starting point is easy to find: the Puits d'Auzon car park. However, there are no chamois! Just goats at most...

Very nice hike. It was very difficult to find the starting point, which can easily be confused with that of another hike marked with a yellow sign saying "Pic des Mouches". In fact, the starting point is not marked at all on site and you have to follow the GPS track carefully, both to find the starting point and for the first 200 metres, which were also difficult to follow: you tend to follow a fence that is close to and parallel to the route, and the app doesn't realise the mistake until quite late...
In the second part of the route, there are whole meadows of angel hair grass, shining like silver in the sun. It's really very pretty at this time of year (late May).

A varied hike offering extraordinary views. The second part is wilder. Thank you for sharing.

A beautiful hike with superb panoramic views on the way up to Pic des Mouches. I enjoyed the gentle climb along the trail, which allowed my group of hikers to ease back into it after the summer. Following my reconnaissance 15 days earlier, I shortened the return trip a little by bypassing the citadel circular loop (which is not very interesting and also very hot at this time of year) and took the path parallel to the road at Col des Portes, which takes you back to the car park in about 40 minutes.

A beautiful hike, the view from Pic des Mouches is magnificent.
I downloaded the hike, and with GPS, it's easy to follow the route.

Very beautiful route, the descent is a bit tricky. We even saw a chamois.
