Starting point of the walking tour: car park at the entrance to Maasholm
(S/E) We walk south from the car park on the banks of the Schlei. We turn right before the Schleieck and follow the Fördesteig path along the water’s edge, turning right at the next junction, then left again.
(1) We pass countless small jetties. At the end, we turn right onto ‘Am Kliff’, then right again at the end of the beach path.
(2) We have reached the marina and turn left at the end. There is another viewpoint on the right. The path leads northwards along a narrow beach. After a sharp left-hand bend, we pass the pumping station.
(3) From the small hill known as Hegeberg, we have a lovely view of the Schlei.
(4) Next, we reach the Oehe-Schleimünde Seabird Sanctuary. Behind it, a footpath leads to a lovely beach on the Baltic Sea coast. We turn back, follow the path a short way and then take the next right. At the end, we turn right again.
(5) We have reached the Maasholm Nature Discovery Centre and set off on a tour of the grounds (information boards, street art, tree horoscope, boulders). We then follow the road south and take the next right towards Schleimünde. The path eventually curves northwards.
(6) We cross a stream and take the next left, then right at the end, followed by a left.
(7) We’re back at the Schlei and follow the bank back to the car park (S/E).
