Rösjöleden, circular in Fulufjället Park

This is a very pleasant hike that allows you to discover the different landscapes of the region. The passage at the top of the Fulufjället Park waterfall is very impressive and can be combined with a view of the waterfall from below with a short detour. Not to mention Old Tjikko, the oldest tree in the world.

Description of the walk

There is a car park at the entrance to Fulufjället Park.

(S/E) Go to the back of the car park and cross the small bridge over Bjorgbacken. A few dozen metres after the bridge, you will come to a crossroads.

(1) Leave the return path on your left and take the path through the woods to the entrance to Fulufjället National Park, which offers a beautiful view of the landscape below the plateau. Pass the ponds, then a stream, andyou will reach a fork in the path.

(2) You can turn left to see the Njupsekär waterfall from below. Otherwise, turn right (choice of route) and climb up to the plateau via the steps. Most of the elevation gain on this hike is on these steps.

(3) Shortly afterwards, leave the path on your left, which can be used as a shortcut for the hike, and continue on the right to reach the plateau. Make a wide circular loop to the left, cross two paths and arrive at a new crossroads.

(4) Turning right, you can see Old Tjikko, the oldest tree in the world. The rest of the route continues on the plateau and is fairly flat. The absence of trees leaves hikers at the mercy of the wind and rain. Reach the next crossroads.

(5) Ignore the path on the left, which you will take on the way back, and continue straight ahead to the next junction.

(6) Take the path on the right to reach Stora Getsön and follow its southern shore. Continue to a small lake called Lorthän, where there is a refuge that provides shelter in case of severe weather and even allows you to warm up with the help of a wood stove.

(7) Continue to the left, walk along two lakes called Skarphän and Stenhän and reach a crossroads near Rörsjöhön (944 m) on the left.

(8) Continue straight ahead and you will come to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(6) Continue in the same direction and return to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(5) Turn right to pass above the Njupsekär waterfall.

(9) Take the path back. It meets the path coming from the lakes of Lissrörsjon and Storrörsjon, then heads north to the park entrance and car park (S/E).

Notes

There is a refuge at point (7) on the map. It has a wood stove, survival rations and a first aid kit (when I visited in 2025). Basic tools such as a saw and an axe are also available.

Some sections are exposed to wind and rain, so it is advisable to be well equipped if the weather turns bad.
