Park along the N658 or start from the village of Rocherarth (which adds about 4.5 km to the walk).
(S/E) Enter the woods via the tarmac path starting on the right when you have your back to the main road, and you will soon reach the first fork.
(1) Turn left and follow a long straight road after passing through the hamlet of Dickelt to reach the end of the forest.
(2) Enter the valley via the Wehtrieft and follow a small stream that later flows into the Schwalmbach.
(3) Before the bridge leading to the Elsenborn military camp, take the path on the right that runs alongside the Schwalmbach to reach the Jajesnica Cross.
(4) Shortly after the cross, in the valley, cross a small wooden bridge. From here, you can see the hill in the distance. Climb it to reach the summit of Rocher du Bieley.
Take a break at Bieley Rock, which offers an exceptional view of the valley.
(5) Take the path that branches off to the left and, at the first fork, turn right.
Note at this crossroads: if you turn left, after about 300 metres, you will reach the German border.
Continue past Galgenberg and shortly afterwards you will come to a T-junction.
(6) Turn right. Follow the path for just under a kilometre, passing a house and a small lake on your left. After the lake, stay on the main path that branches off to the right to reach the Mathias cross. Once you have seen the cross, return to the main path.
(7) Turn left onto the second path. Walk along the woods and the Krockesbach river and enjoy the beautiful view of the Krockesbach valley. Continue until you reach a small shelter.
(8) Then enter the woods again via the path on the left. Pass a watchtower and, a few hundred metres further on, you will reach another fork.
(9) Take the path on the right, cross the Krockesbach and continue slightly uphill to return to thefirst crossroads you passed on the way there.
(1) Follow the same route as on the way out to return to the car park on the NG58 road (S/E).
Moderator's note: please read the reviews carefully: some periods are dangerous due to live fire training at the Elsenborn camp.
... There were explosions everywhere! So I couldn't hike there.
