Around Saint-Félix-de-Lunel

A short horse ride (which can easily be done on foot or by mountain bike). It is situated not far from the medieval site of Conques and theGR®65(the Way of St James from Le Puy to Santiago de Compostela).
You’ll be able to enjoy the landscapes of northern Aveyron. You’ll pass through magnificent oak woods and look down over the old villages of Pruines and Villecomtal.
This route can be extended to the medieval village of Estaing, and potentially over several days via theGR®65or the Camins d’Olt.

Description of the walk

Place de Lunel.

(S/E) Head south, then turn right towards the tennis courts. Before reaching them, turn left, pass between a carpenter’s workshop and a small house, and follow the dirt track to the D46.

(1) Follow it for 250 metres, then turn left and then right before the fuel tanks, heading towards La Fage.

(2) Go round the back of the shed and continue along the small grassy path on the right until you reach a tarmac road not far from La Boule.

(3) Turn left, follow this road and, just after a new house, turn right at the hairpin bend.
Carry on along this road until you reach the next hairpin bend.

(4) There, take the path on the right and, after about 50 metres, take the track that climbs up to your left. Follow it until you reach a wider path. Keep to the left (in the direction of the climb) and follow it to the ridge line. Continue down a fairly steep slope to the right. Then take the first path on the left (the start is a flat area with beehives).

(5) When you reach the tarmac road, turn left and continue to the plateau (about 1 km).

(6) Take the wide path on the right and follow it for about 3 km. ((7)) Passing close to the source of the Duzou)

(8) Before the Puech farm, keep to the right, then after 500m take the first forest track, which soon narrows and descends into the forest for 1km.

(9) Turn left onto the wider track; follow it, keeping to the right at the first Y-junction, then keep left until after a steep climb, where you’ll follow the track to the right. After 400 or 500 metres, the track becomes a steep path.

(10) At the main forest track, carry on straight ahead towards the hamlet of Belmontel.

(11) After a few hundred metres on the tarmac, take the fairly wide path on the left. Continue for a further 100 metres or so.

(12) At the three-way junction, take the narrow path opposite, which climbs quite steeply; after 50 metres, turn right and follow the path to Mas Haut.

(13) Continue along the tarmac road which descends towards the D904. Turn left onto it, then immediately right towards Mas Bas; walk through it until you reach the last houses at the top.

(14) Then take the signposted path on the right. After about 1 km, turn left onto the stony path which climbs towards Grammayresque and Polissal.

(15) On leaving Polissal, turn right onto the D46 and follow it.

(16) Leave the D46 by turning right onto a track, then left onto the road leading past Lacamp. Continue along this road, which passes through Les Hermies Basses and then Les Hermies Hautes, rejoining the D46 just before a bridge.

(17) Just after the first small bridge, follow a wide dirt track on the right. Keep to the left until you reach Molières.

(18) Ride through this hamlet and turn left onto a lovely galloping track, which you’ll follow until you reach a recycling centre.

(19) Take the tarmac road on the left, cross a bridge and turn right at the first road to join the D137 north of Lunel.

(20) Turn left and return to your starting point (S/E).

Notes

Given that signposting is sporadic and often non-existent, I believe maps are essential.
This walk requires no special equipment apart from good walking boots or shoes.

Worth a visit

Nearby are the villages of Conques, Estaing, Villecomtal, etc.
A little further on lies the Aubrac.

Walking route. A very lovely route, but the directions are rather vague; an IGN map or GPS is recommended.

Hello
I can make the change to the route if you could specify the location on the map and the change to be made
Kind regards

Hello
It wasn’t a big deal; we managed to complete the route and really enjoyed the walk.
Thanks for the coffee, but the next time we’re in your area, there’s likely to be quite a few of us (between 20 and 30).......

You’re not the only one having IT management issues.
Using the Visorando software, I’ve corrected the section that was causing the problem, but unfortunately I don’t know how to send it to you as it isn’t possible to attach a file to this type of message. However, I’ve saved a copy on my end.

Have a good day.

Hello,
I’ve read your reply, but unfortunately I’m not sure how to send you the corrected route file generated by your hiking software.
I clicked on ‘Save’, but I’m not sure where it’s saved.
As a last resort, I’ve exported it to my computer whilst I wait to find the answer.
Is there a way to attach a file to a message like this one?

Have a good day.

I’m sorry about this mistake (due to a lack of experience and familiarity with the software); to make it up to you, and if you happen to drop by again, I’ll buy you a coffee :->>.
Question: can you correct it?
Thank you for your comment.

We went on this walk on a lovely day. A very pleasant and varied route. There were a few sections on tarmac, but it’s sometimes difficult to avoid them, especially on a long walk. Some stunning 360° panoramic views, and a beautiful waterfall at Polissal.
One small point, however: the route on the map is incorrect between points 462502/4932367 and 462729/4932093 in the Cale Combe area.
Thanks to francoulunel for this walk.
