Description of the walk

(S/E) Begin this walk in the centre of Rainow on B5470 in front of the church. Walk South-West along Church Lane and take the footpath off Pedley Hill below the Church of England Church. This part of the route follows the River Dean on your right-hand side and then climbs up steeply to Snipe House.

(1) From Snipe house take the road left down to the bottom of Lamaload Reservoir Dam. After a small detour around the waterworks take the footpath to the left of the reservoir and continue on towards Hooleyhey Lane.

(2) Turn right in Hooleyhey Lane. Follow the road for the length of the reservoir and as the road rises steeply take the footpath on the right around the back of the reservoir.

(3) After a short distance along a track take the footpath on the left up towards Vale Royal. There are two footpath on the left here, take the right hand one up towards the edge of the wood directly up the very steep hill.

(4) Continue on crossing a small road and keep to the right towards Vale Royal and then Gullshaw Hollow and Hordern Farm.

(5) Walk through Hordern Farm and after a short walk, cross a small road and take the footpath up to the ridge ahead. There are some fine views from here. Carry straight on North-North-West back to B5470 and then Church of England Church.(S/E)

Great walk. Lovely views. Steep hills but the walk was worth it.
