If you are travelling by car, leave your vehicle at the end of Avenue des Trembles (it is a dead end and parking is free).
(S/E) Head towards the Atomium by following theGR®12. When you reach Avenue du Gros Tilleul, turn left, still heading towards the Atomium.
(1) At the roundabout, continue to follow theGR®12along Boulevard du Centenaire. Turn right onto the path that runs alongside the lake (still on theGR®12). When theGR® leaves the park, turn left and take the footbridge over the lake. As you cross, take a look at the Théâtre de Verdure, where jazz concerts are held in summer.
(2) Descend towards the roundabout below. When you reach Avenue de Gros-Tilleul, go around the roundabout decorated with a pyramid-like structure and continue towards the round building (the former American pavilion from the 1958 World's Fair). Take the first right (marked green walkway andGR®12). Following theGR®, take the second left and climb up to the Dynasty Monument, which can be seen behind the hill. Still on theGR®, climb up to admire the Royal Palace of Laeken from the Dynasty Monument.
(3) Leave theGR® to descend through the park (theGR® descends via Avenue du Parc Royal, which is unpleasant due to traffic). Join Avenue des Trembles and turn left towards the European School. As you pass, note the pretty little Sainte Anne chapel hidden among the trees.
(4) Turn right onto Avenue des Robiniers (the least pleasant part of the route). At the corner of Rue Médori, enter the gardens of Fleuriste du Stuyvenbergh via a staircase and then a wooden footbridge that runs along the wall. Admire this magnificent and little-known garden as you walk around the ponds. Be sure to climb up to the observation tower.
(5). Pass under the graceful bridge and turn left to descend towards Parc Sobieski. Walk around it and head towards the tunnel that passes under Avenue des Robiniers.
(6) Enter Colonial Park, a charming little garden tucked between two busy avenues. When you leave the park, carefully cross Avenue des Ebeniers and the tram tracks to walk back up the green promenade. Go over the tram tracks and turn right to reach Avenue des Trembles (S/E).
