The Calanques via Béouveyre, Pas de la Demi-Lune and Callelongue

A very beautiful, challenging hike with superb views and pleasant trails in wild but remarkable surroundings. Be careful, however, as some sections require the use of your hands, hence the 'difficult' rating.
You are in the Calanques National Park, which is subject to specific regulations. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in a fine of up to €1,500.

Description of the walk

Park at Calanque des Trous, in the last bend before Les Goudes: there are a few spaces available along the road.

(S/E) The start of trail no. 5 (yellow markings) is marked by a Parc des Calanques signpost; recycling bins and a fire hydrant can also be used as landmarks.

Take the marked path uphill and you will quickly reach a flat area where, on your return, you will see a fish drawn with stones from above.

(1) Continue straight up to Col Moutté, where you will find the intersection with brown trail no. 1, which you will follow. The climb will take place in a narrow, slightly steep corridor (Vallon du Piadon) but with very beautiful views all around. Be sure to keep going in the same direction until you reach the summit of Béouveyre.

(2) Enjoy the magnificent 360° panorama. Continue to the right on Blue Trail No. 1. Make a short descent with two tricky sections, one of which is equipped with a cable, to quickly reach Col des Chèvres.

(3) Continue straight ahead for a few metres, then turn right onto the Green trail no. 1, which descends into the Vallon de l'Aigle, a very pleasant and wild valley. Halfway down, the Pas du Pin passage may seem very impressive, but it can be crossed without too much difficulty thanks to good footholds and handholds. At the bottom of the descent, leave the Red Trail No. 1 on your right and continue on the Green Trail, which climbs a few metres and from where you can see the entrance to a cave a little higher up (5 min round trip).

At the intersection with the Yellow 2a trail (there is also a small cave nearby), continue on the Yellow 2a trail, which will take you past the Saint-Michel d'Eau Douce cave and along the cliffside to the Pas de la Demi-lune.

(4) At this point, take a break for a snack and enjoy the view, sheltered from the wind on the south side.
Then take the Yellow 2a trail again and descend gently towards Callelongue, heading for the old semaphore. You will reach the Col du Sémaphore.

(5) Do not go to the semaphore, but turn right onto the path that descends to Callelongue, where it joins the GR® (white and red markings).

(6) Turn right and cross the hamlet, passing by the small but very pretty houses, heading north, following the GR® which climbs up to the junction with the Red trail no. 1. Ignore this trail and continue on the GR® until you reach a plateau offering beautiful views of the Rochers des Goudes you crossed earlier.

Continue following the white and red markings until you reach the intersection with the Yellow Trail No. 5, which you took on the way there.

(1) Look down at the fish drawn with pebbles, leave the GR® and turn left onto the Yellow trail no. 5, which leads back down to the starting point (S/E).

Practical information

If you have walking sticks, plan to attach them to your rucksack during tricky sections.
Avoid hiking after rain as the paths are slippery: do not attempt!

There is an alternative route to avoid the tricky sections towards Béouveyre by staying on the Yellow Trail No. 5 to Col des Chèvres, but it would be a shame to miss out on the views.
It is possible to get to the starting point by bus (nearby stop): please enquire.

The hike takes about 2 hours 40 minutes with few stops. Allow 3 hours 30 minutes if visiting the caves and stopping for a snack.

In the nearby area

There are three caves to visit (don't forget your head torch).
Les Goudes and Callelongue.

Hello User 15286497...I have taken note of your comments and have therefore modified the description of the 'Pas du Pin', even though the 'feedback' I have received about this hike is not so alarming
Happy hiking to all!

⚠️ Warning: extremely dangerous hike!
The Pas du Pin is on the side of a cliff, with no ropes or safety equipment. The slightest mistake IS fatal. The start of the descent seems reassuring (well, sort of), and you feel your way down to test the terrain. But the further down you go, the more difficult it becomes, and turning back becomes extremely complicated because of the height of the places where you can put your feet.
The Pas de la Demi-Lune remains impressive, but is much less risky than the Pas du Pin.

Before this passage, the trail is pleasant, with magnificent landscapes and an impressive cave to visit.

In summary: if you value your life, do not attempt the Pas du Pin. Courage is good... but living is better.

PS: This is the first time I've left a review on Visorando, but I felt compelled to warn people.

Additional information:
Hike completed in good weather.
We are not afraid of heights.
We didn't meet anyone between the Pas du Pin and the Pas de la Demi-Lune.
There were no ropes or safety features along the entire trail.

a superb technical hike with short sections where you need to use your hands, a little dizzying in places
magnificent scenery with a blue sky like today;
i extended it a little by starting from Monte Rosa, making it 13 km in total with an 850 m elevation gain

Hike done in the opposite direction, starting from Callelongue. Definitely one of the most beautiful walks in the calanques, and quite short (3½ hours). A few climbing sections without any major difficulty, but the Pas de la Demi-Lune is very exposed for about twenty metres.

Superb hike with breathtaking views of Marseille and the coast! A few tricky sections with cables, but nothing too difficult. Do it clockwise as recommended by Visorando!
Starting from Marseille, I highly recommend it!

An absolutely magnificent hike with stunning views at every turn.
I did it alone, but I must admit that I would recommend doing it with a partner, as some sections are really difficult.
The description is spot on, I didn't get lost.
There is one tricky section with a rope to help you descend and another that is a little steep, but with the help of your hands as indicated, it is doable.
Be warned, however, I do not recommend it for those who are afraid of heights! The passage to the Pas de la Demi Lune is truly impressive.
I completed the hike in 2½ hours, stopping only to take photos and have a snack. I didn't visit the caves, so the estimated time is accurate.
Thank you for this truly exotic walk!
