La Levée en Oule from Villevêque

Set off on a circular walk between the banks of the Loir, the forest and the countryside to discover the lower valleys of Anjou. Accessible to all, this route takes you through lush green countryside and discreet heritage sites, following the tracks of an old railway line.

Description of the walk

Starting point: Free car park at Engrenage-Moulin de Villevê que

(S/E) Walk along the car park until you reach the Passage du Thiboué on your right. Go up this passage towards the church.

(1) Turn left onto Rue du Général de Gaulle, cross the crossroads, then take Rue Jean de Beauvau. Pass the retirement home, then turn left onto the footpath. Follow this path to the edge of the Loir, then continue along the river before heading back up, still opposite, towards the power line.

(2) Continue straight ahead and join the D192 road.

(3) Before reaching it, turn right onto the path that runs alongside it. Cross the D192 further on, take Chemin de la Gare on the left, then turn right onto Chemin des Bouchets. Cross the hamlet of La Poulaillerie.

(4) Turn right onto a small path, then arrive at a fork.

(5) Turn right again onto a small paved road. Then take the footpath on the left until you reach a crossroads.

(6) At the intersection, follow Chemin de l'Audinais to the right, then take the first right. At the next intersection, turn left, then right towards the multi-generational house "Les couleurs du temps".

(7) Follow the paved road that passes in front of the house. After a 90° left turn, take the road on the right at the pedestrian crossing. Follow the road to the car park of a building. Pass under the building, cross the road and turn right to reach the library.

(8) When you reach it, go through the public garden, then Place Hamard, passing in front of the presbytery and its garden. Join Passage du Thiboué next to the church.

(1) Then go back down opposite towards the Engrenage-Moulin de Villevêque car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Tourist attractions:
- Villevêque Castle Museum: a12th-century fortress, it houses works bequeathed by the Duclaux family in 2002 to the city of Angers to serve as an annex to the Museum of Fine Arts. It has an important collection of medieval and Renaissance art.
- Engrenage-Moulin de Villevêque: for eight centuries, the three mills in the commune produced oil, paper and flour. Today, only the Moulin de Froment and the Grand Moulin remain, now used to generate electricity.
- The old railway line connecting Angers to Corzé. Today, the station is privately owned and the railway line has been converted into a hiking trail.
