Description of the walk

The short circular tour starts at the car park behind the Washington W. King Bridge (Covered Bridge Lane). As we wanted to walk across the bridge, we parked in front of it.

Markings: pink lines, mostly on trees or stones.

(S/E) From the car park behind the bridge, we follow the pink markings to the left. The path leads us along the water and over some sandy paths. We pass a picnic area and follow the trail across the island.

We reach a fork and keep left, continuing to follow the King's Trail close to the water.

(1) Soon, the pink markings lead us to the right and our path now runs a little further away from the water. Shortly afterwards, a path leads to the right, but we keep slightly to the left and soon reach the car park in front of the wooden bridge again. Turn left onto the bridge and you are back at the starting point (S/E).

Notes

Stone Mountain Park is located in the US state of Georgia, near Atlanta.
If you arrive by car, you will have to pay a parking fee for Stone Mountain Park, which can be purchased for a day or for the entire year. If you want to enter the park on foot or by bike, you do not have to pay a fee.

The short trail is mostly narrow and partly sandy, so it's not suitable for prams or buggies.

Worth a visit

There are many different activities to enjoy in the park:
Hiking (there are several well-marked hiking trails)
Dinoland and old western town with train (especially nice for children) – please note opening hours
Stone Mountain – a large, impressive granite rock that you can climb on foot (it is 1 mile from the official starting point to the top) or explore by cable car.
On the bas-relief on the north side of Stone Mountain, you can see three personalities from the Confederate States of America: President Jefferson Davis and Generals Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and Robert E. Lee.
In the evening, a laser show is projected onto the relief.
