Zeus’s Cave

Start from the car park at the information point (closed).

(S/E) Take the path which soon joins a track suitable for vehicles.

(1) Cross over and take the path opposite to cut across the bend in the road, which you’ll rejoin further on.

(2) Turn right onto it for a few metres, then follow the path on the right – which also serves as a shortcut – before rejoining the track once more.

(3) At the next hairpin bend, walk past a cowshed/sheepfold and rejoin the path on the right: sign for Idaean Cave. You’ll soon reach the cave; take a look inside – there are a few information boards.

(4) Return via the same route as on the way up to reach the car park (S/E).

A relatively short walk, with no water sources along the route. Partially shaded by trees.

For the return journey, you can walk along the track, which is partly tarmacked, back to the car park, but it takes longer.

NB: It is possible to drive up to the Cave of Zeus, but at present the road is not entirely tarmac-surfaced, so a 4x4 or an SUV is recommended to avoid damaging the car.
