Description of the walk

From Jefferson Avenue (WI124), go down Ashley Lane to the car parks and park in one of them.

(S/E) From the car park, return to Ashley Lane and go down to the left to the lake shore for a panoramic view of the lake.

(1) Continue north along the lake on a small path that leads back up to the entrance to Ashley Lane. Admire the large American house below, but there is little prospect of going very far in this direction. Head back down to the lake via Ashley Lane (tarmac road) or retrace your steps.

(1) Then follow the wide dirt track that descends with the stream towards the south, leaving the car parks on your left. After about 150 metres, the track turns right. Leave the track and walk closer to the stream to get a view of the dam.

(2) Return to the track and continue walking until you reach a bridge.

(3) Cross the bridge over the stream and join the Glen Lock Train, which is marked by a path and blue markers on the trees.

(4) Some sections are narrow along the lake, but given the slight drop below, those prone to vertigo should not be affected.
There are a few benches along the lake where you can sit and enjoy the silence, occasionally punctuated by the activity of the many grey squirrels that inhabit the area, or by a large beaver-like creature that crossed the path three metres in front of me (an impressive beast in size but probably more frightened than I was!).
Continue north along the shore to a paved road (Ermatinger Drive, a possible alternative for the return trip).
See Practical Information.

(5) Retrace your steps back to the car parks (S/E).

Notes

Note the presence of dry toilets in the car park, near point (1). Not being very familiar with the customs regarding relieving oneself in the forest, they were welcome, especially as they were clean and well stocked with consumables.

(5)You should be able to return to (4) by taking this road to the left. Personally, I preferred to retrace my steps towards the lake, its calm and the beautiful views through the trees (it was early winter, so I'm not sure if the view would have been as clear with leaves on the trees).

Worth a visit

Grey squirrels everywhere and beaver-like creatures near the lake.
