Start : Start at the car park on the shore at the snack hut at Ainslie Park, Girvan. (KA26 0HW) Grid ref. NX 182 963
(S/E) You can either follow the Ayrshire Coastal Path along the shore then cross the road to take the first left going up to Bynehill cemetery, or walk across to the roundabout and take the A714 o Pinmore.
(1) At Bynehill cemetery, cross the road and enter the field (North-East). Go under the railway bridge and follow the tracks going to the right and uphill. Follow this all the way to Assell Valley Wind Farm.
(2) Continue going straight ahead, ignore any roads branching off and follow the road on a large sweeping bend. Eventually, you will come to an exit sign at the T-junction.
(3) Go straight ahead here across the field towards the forest and go through the firebreak, eventually coming to the ruins at Barbae.
(4) Turn right and go downhill again into a forest following the tracks through the firebreak until you come to a road and Burnside cottage. Go through the gate to the left of the cottage and staying close to the garden fence go down and across the bridge.
(5) Go through a gate and into the trees, across another bridge and onto the Duplin farm rd. Follow this road right up to Duplin farm.
(6) At the old red metal barn, turn left and go through the gate into the field and cross at the style and over the bridge.
From here you can either go straight up the firebreak and across 2 small drops,(can be marshy) till you come to the fence, turn right and follow to the stile or contour left through the woods till you come to a dyke/fence. Do not cross the burn but head uphill following the fence till you come to the stile.
Cross the stile and head for the last windmill closest to you.
(7) From there, continue going uphill and walk to the new deer fence and follow going left. At the gate. go through and pick up the deer fence going left. The easiest way is to follow the deer fence with it on your left and continue till you get to the gate near the flat section just to the right of the summit.
Go through this (single) gate and you can go to the summit if you want going through the gate at the old fence or go through the gate and head downhill to the deer fence and go through the (double) gate and pick a route going downhill on the left hand side of the burn.
(8) Halfway down, you will be able to cross the burn at the quad track and continue going downhill on the right hand side of the burn until you come to the gate at the road.
(9) Turn right onto the road and follow into Barr village. (S/E)
