Description of the walk

(S) Start at this intersection and follow the B3328 eastward (avoid the Appley Steps variant of the Coastal Path, which is closed). After 200 metres, turn right into Everton Lane and join the Coastal Path on the right, heading down towards the sea while keeping the Shanklin Chine on your right.

(1) Go north along Shanklin seafront.

(2) Continue along the B3395 road. After less than a kilometre, the road turns left. Leave the road and take the path straight ahead up into the meadows on Red Cliff, following the road eastward.

(3) Find a small path at the north end of the car park and rejoin the Coastal Path 50m on the left. Take the path to the right and go down at the foot of a caravan park.

(4) Walk around the black rock; the coastal path is closed. Go left for 200m before turning right onto a big road.

(5) Follow the seafront. At Tyne Hall, turn left for 100m and then right onto the Coastal Path to Bembridge Point (E).

Practical information

Good walking shoes, a warm and waterproof jacket, sticks, food and water are recommended. The coastal path is well signposted. However, we recommend that you check your position on the map using the Visorando app. You are encouraged to use the Coastal Path diversions wherever signposted, as parts of the Coastal Path have been eroded and are not accessible.

Most of the walk is on a good track, although occasionally you will walk on a road.

There is a good bus service at all the starting and finishing points.
