From the pay-and-display car park, the path is well signposted. After an hour’s walk, you’ll reach the first lava flows. Carry on to the 2022 volcano – it’s a magnificent way to explore the 2021 and 2022 volcanoes. The view is splendid and perfect for meditation… the path is easy, though the short climb on the way back is a bit tricky.

Get up close to the volcanoes from the Ha-Hrafnshilo car park
An almost flat trail through an unreal setting: green moss on black rock, steam in the air. Upon arrival, still-glowing lava flows at the foot of an active volcano. A landscape from another world.
