Start Epping Tube Station, Station Road, Epping, Essex, (CM16 4HW). Grid Ref: TL 4624 0159
(S/E) We start the walk at Epping Tube Station on the Central Line. Come out of the station and take right (North East) on the alley leading to Sation Road. At the junction with Station Road, take the left (North West) onto Station Road. Stay on Sation Road until the end of the street.
(1) At the end of the road, turn left (South West) onto B1393 (High Street). Walk down (South West) B1393 (High Street) for 1.4 Km. You notice that the name changes for High Road after the crossroad with Hemnal Street. Stay on B1393 for 1.4 Km.
(2) Then, you see the entrance to the Griffinswood Cottages' private property on your right (North West). Continue after the cottages and a few meters further down you find a footpath on your left (South) leading to a field. Take this footpath. When you enter the field take the footpath on your left (South) which is part of the Oak Trail. Enter Epping Forest. The footpath comes to an end.
(3) Turn left (East) to follow the Oak Trail. After a couple of meters, the path splits in 2. Take the branch gon your right heading South East. Do the same when you get to the next intersection a couple of meters after and continue on the path on the right-hand side heading South. Stay on this path for 1.2 Km.
(4) You then see a footpath on your left followed by another one on your right. Ignore them Continue straight on the Oak Trail heading towards the South West and then bending towards the South. Stay on this trail for another 1.6 Km.
(5) Look at the signage and you see the Oak Trail turns to the left (South West). Don't follow the trail Continue straight (South) on the path which is called Main Path. The path then bends towards the South East. When you arrive at the edge of the forest after 730 m on Main Path, continue straight (South East) and exit the forest. The path then becomes a paved street called Debden Road.
(6) At the first crossroad continue straight (South East) onto Debden Lane. At the second crossroad, turn left (North East) on Debden Lane. Be careful, the street on your right (South West) is also called Debden Lane. Stay on Debden Lane for 1.5 Km. The road is heading towards the South East and then bends towards the North East. Note that the street changes name for Loughton Lane after 730m.
(7) When you arrive at the end of Loughton Lane, turn left (North West) on The Green. At the end of the street, take the left on Coppice Row where you re-join the Oak Trail. Stay on Coppice Road for 240m or so. A few meters before the crossroad with Sidney Road, you find a footpath on your right-hand side (North) which leads to the Oak Trail, parallel to Coppice Row. After 50m, the path deviates (North West) from the road onto the forest. Follow the Oak Trail and re-enter the forest. After 500m on the Oak Trail you arrive at a junction.
(8) Leave the Oak Trail and take the path on your right (North East). At the first junction continue straight (North). At the second junction, turn left (North West) and then at the next one, turn right (North). At the next two crossings, continue straight (North), You stay on this path walking towards the North for a total of 1 Km.
(9) The path ends at a crossing with the Oak Trail (where you walked before nearby waypoint (4)). Take left (South West) on Oak Trail and then turn immediately right (North). After a few meters, the path divides in two. Take the path on your left (North West). When the path comes to an end, turn right (North East) and walk on this path parallel to High Road for 1.1 Km. You notice that near the end the path bends to the right (East).
(3) You are back where we started our walk through the forest at waypoint (3). Turn left (North) and exit the forest. Retrace your steps back to the station where we started. When you leave the forest, you enter a field. Walk straight (North) to the gate and exit the field.
(2) Turn right (North East) onto High Road. Walk on the side of this road for 1.5 Km.
